I hope someone can help me. Up until the last week or so, I have had no problem with my signature file in outgoing email. I've been using the same signature file for at least 5 years. Suddenly, Thunderbird is blocking my logo image in my signature file in all outgoing mail. Instead, it is showing my alternate text. I am using version 102.6.1 on Windows 10

I write my e-mails in a green font. That is how I used to do it in Outlook and as soon as I started writing it stayed as green after setting it up. However I haven't found a way to do that in Thunderbird that is satisfactory. The main way I see mentioned is changing the setting in Composition > HTML Style > Take out use reader's colors and set green as text, however this also changes the color of the Thunderbird signature and of the messages being replied. My wish is to only make green whatever I write for the message, not the full e-mail. Is there a way to set it to a color?

If this setting isn't in standard Thunderbird a plugin suggestion would also work! What I wish would be equivalent to having the green font color selected at the start of any e-mail with everything else default!

Many thanks,

Kael

Hey guys. With my previous Tbird install, subfolders had 3 different looks to them. There was a folder icon for subfolders with no unread emails, and other icon for folders with unread emails, and an other subfolder icon for a subfolder with new unread email. But the image included shows the new updated version folders I get. The subfolder "HODL" and the subfolder "Interac" look identical, though one of them contains unread emails (4) and the other one does not.

This is a very important feature for my script to work properly. I can't find where in the settings or with add-ons how to make it so.

This is likely frivolous to most of you, but extremely important to me.

How can I get subfolders with unread emails to look different?

Or maybe I could revert to the earlier version?

Hi. I'm looking for a way to block message removal by the server in the IMAP protocol - the "(server) append only mode" (it should be still possible to delete/move message from Thunderbird).

Why? I see 2 main use cases:

1. The (corporate) server has message retention set globally (e.g. to 1 year) which "cannot" be changed. Users might want to keep their "important" email longer (and in addition, keep it in the same folders as before, not using the folders copy in the "Local folders" space).

2. Due to the unexpected situation - a server error, fire in a data center, a ransom attack, malicious email provider - all the email (or some of them) are removed from the server. Thunder would sync with the server removing the messages from the synchronized folder on a computer (sure, backup is good, but for the "silent action" - e.g. part of the emails deleted (or encrypted), it might take too long to detect that problem and still have a valid backup).

The are some (not perfect) workarounds, including:

  • keeping old emails in the "Local folders" - two places to search (or many if you have a folder hierarchy with the automatic filtering)
  • a separate, local IMAP server to keep an "append only" copy of the message (e.g. isync, offiline imap), possibly to be used by Thunderbird (instead of the upstream IMAP server)
  • using POP3 (with its own downsides :) )

An obvious downside of the implementation in Thunderbird - which users of that feature have to be aware - is not doing any delete/move operations on the server (e.g. with the webclient or some other IMAP client). Nevertheless, to fulfill the aforementioned requirement it doesn't seem a high cost.

Questions: 1. Is it possible to achieve in Thunderbird itself? 2. Is there any API to help implement that as an extension? 3. Have you - by any chance - tried to implement that using the third party tools (e.g. a local IMAP server which is used by TB) and can recommend any solution? 4. (Bonus) Do you think it would be an useful addition to Thunderbird?

I'm in the process of moving from MacOS to Linux, in particular the latest LTS version of Pop!_OS. I disliked their default email client intensely, and therefore installed whichever version of Thunderbird was available from their repository. Unfortunately I do not know how to determine the version of either POP!_OS or Thunderbird, so I can't be more precise. My apologies for that. (Where *is* Pop!_OS/Thunderbird's version of Mac's "About ..." menu item anyway?!)

For those unfamiliar with POP!_OS, it's a Ubuntu derivative, and its desktop management is built on gnome 3. Its version numbers also match Ubuntu. Most of the time, instructions for Ubuntu found on the web work for Pop!_OS, at least if they are relatively recent.

I'm being plagued by pop-ups from Thunderbird notifying me of each new email received. I want them gone. Googling for instructions has given me recipes involving menu items that don't appear anywhere in the version of Thunderbird I have. In one case (only) instructions said to look somewhere else on linux; perhaps you export drastically different user interfaces on each operating system?

On the other hand, I don't get a count of unread messages associated with Thunderbird's icon in the Pop!_OS dock, and I do want that. (Is that even possible on linux?)

So two questions in one posting: 1) How can I get rid of pop-up notifications of new email messages? 2) (How) can I get a count of unread emails associated with the dock icon?

Thanks in advance for any assistance, including RTFM links.

I've recently joined a committee which has about thirty members. They frequently e-mail eachother, and all their addresses appear on each e-mail (all too often in the 'to' box, I have to say). I've managed to shift them all into the cc box, but I would like to be able to combine them into an address book group. I've tried copying them out of the cc box, but that doesn't seem to work (because I can't select them all simultaneously). Is there a way to do this withot having to copy each address individually into a new address book group? Regards, Tim Dawson
