Hello wise people of the internet,

I've just installed Thunderbird, which happily downloaded the last couple years worth of messages... and then stopped. I can't get it to pick up the rest, even though there's another fifteen years of email that I'd like to preserve on this computer. I tried repairing the folder: it flickers through the existing emails for a while, and maybe stretches the stop date another month or two back, but otherwise doesn't change anything.

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions! I'm truly just using this as a backup for my emails (I continue to read and send within the browser), so it's important to me to get it all here.

I am currently using IMAP. Rackspace hosts my email. I want to change ISP's. I understand that my Rackspace emails will disappear once I delete my Rackspace account and they will not be uploaded to the new ISP.

I need to have access to all my old emails and I don't care about the limitations of POP.

Before I make the move, can I switch from IMAP to POP and download all my emails? Will this retain the file structure - in particular, "inbox" and "sent"

If that works, I'll set up the new ISP for POP. Will new emails be appended to my exiting inbox and sent folders?

Hej Jeg følger fremgangsmåden i artiklen Moving Thunderbird Data to a New Computer, men har lidt (store) problemer. Først fungerede det slet ikke. Efter slet og ny installation på den nye maskine fik jeg mails og adressebog over, men kalender mangle bortset fra et enkelt fremtidigt møde. Efter forsøg på export og import (under Events og tasks) får jeg dannet en fin iCalendar (.ics) fil som jeg efterfølgende ikke kan importere fordi filen ikke indeholder importerbare el Jeg prøver så at gennemføre hele processen med Moving Thunderbird ... igen, og får som ventet spørgsmål om Overwrite existing ..., som jeg svarer ja til. Der overskrives data, men de nyests mails kommer ikke med og kalender mangler stadig. Adressebog stadig fin. Noget tyder på min Thunderbird klient kigger efter data et andet sted end processen tror. Når jeg kigger i Thunderbird Account settings peges der ned i ...Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/...., men nærmere kan jeg ikke komme det. Er der en måde jeg med sikkerhed kan slette al data i Thunderbird, og så prøve at gennemføre Move ... processen igen. Og hvis kalender stadig ikke kommer med over, hvordan får jeg så min dagbog tilbage fra 2009 over til den nye laptop ?? Venlig hilsen Johannes Elkjær Madsen

Help! I tried to follow the migration instructions in Thunderbird support, but it didn't work and now I can't find any of my folders or emails. I need someone to help me through reconstructing this. I have all the profiles and email information, saved, I hope, but I appear to be doing something wrong. I would really prefer to do this over the phone, if that's possible. Sydney

I recently got a new PC, with Thunderbird (TB) re-installed. The address book in my old TB was not migrated to TB in my new PC.

Is there a way to import the address book to my new TB?

Hi!

I´ve bought a new PC. Now I need to access emails exported through EML from TB to a Folder outside TB. The relevant Folder is visible in my new PC. All separate emails are visible onscreen, but when I click on an email it doesn´t open. Instead, I am asked to open a new account. TB is not a listed option, only Outlook, Hotmail, Yahoo, iCloud and others, such as "other account POP IMAP".

I am not well versed in these TB matters.

Can I access exported emails? If so, how?

Are my exported emails still accessible as emails?

Should I have alerted the technician about this before he transferred my info to my new PC?

My Thunderbird keeps crashing and/or not responding. I cannot access the export tool for my settings, etc. Can I just download the latest version of Thunderbird and install it over my present version without losing all my settings and addressbook? Thanks in advance for your help.

My email provider is closing down in July and I found Thunderbird as an excellent new provider. In a write up, it said it was very easy to add a second, separate account. I wish to do this to keep personal emails separate from work and charity emails. How do I do this, please? (I am elderly, disabled, and not too good when it comes to IT. In other words, help needs to be spelled out in words that I can understand as I have'nt a clue what some of the language, in daily use by people who are familiar with it means. Thank you.

I just downloaded and installed Thunderbird to use for my email because I have nothing but trouble with the Windows 11 Mail program on my computer. Apparently I've missed something critical in the set up because it doesn't access any of my emails. Even if I try to send myself an email it says the sending failed because the server was unable to access the mailbox. My email address is through Frontier, which uses Yahoo Mail to handle it's email. My email address is xxxxxx@frontier.com. When I check my settings on Thunderbird it has my correct email address for account name and email address, and under server settings it has my correct email address for user name, for server type says IMAP Mail Server, and for server name says imap.mail.yahoo.com. For port it says 993(default). I used to use Thunderbird on a previous laptop, with the same email address, and never had a problem. Can someone tell me what I might be missing? I will admit to being middle of the pack when it comes to being tech savvy, so don't get too technical please. Appreciate any help.

I am receiving the following error message when I try to download messages from my Comcast.net account:

The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server mail.comcast.net responded: Message 41395 expunged.

This just started happening yesterday, and I can no longer download any messages from the account. Comcast has no clue why this is happening.

Hello, my computer died but before it did i backed up my Thunderbird profile files - the backup is 77.8GB so big to zip using export. I installed Thunderbird v.102.8.0 64 bit; and copied my backed up files over and now my email account list shows when clicking the dropdown arrow next to "get messages" but the email account list (72 email accounts) does not show in the left hand pane.

I have attached images of what I see, what is showing in app data - both local and roaming, and also of both .ini files.

Using the troubleshooting setting the software is pointing to the correct location.

I would truly appreciate your help.

I have a corrupted TBird profile and needed to reinstall TBird, create a new profile and synchronize it with my Yahoo mail. I have a large number of subfolders below the inbox on my Yahoo mail server and want to make sure those get synchronized into TBird as well as just the inbox messages. Is that happening automatically or do I need to do something "special"

I am running Thunderbird 78.14. I have been reluctant to upgrade Thunderbird because:

1. It has been relatively stable and the expression "If it ain't broke don't fix it" comes to mind.

However, recently I have experienced one or two issues which may be bugs in Thunderbird that are fixed in newer releases, plus I know that I'm missing lots of security fixes.

Nevertheless, I'm nervous about proceeding and I have couple of questions:

• If I upgrade and experience major problems, is it possible to go back to the release I was running before the upgrade?
• Which release should I upgrade to? The "About Thunderbird" dialog would take me to 91.13.1, which is the latest version of Thunderbird 91, but I see that there is also a Thunderbird 102. In fact, if I click on "Download Thunder bird" from the Thunderbird Release Notes main page, it downloads the 102.9 installer. What is the recommended upgrade path? From 78.14 to 91.13.1 and then later to 102.9 or straight to 102.9?

1) Could someone tell me where to find documentation of the syntax used in Profiles.ini?

2) I moved my user data for Thunderbird to a separate disk drive to facilitate running backups. I have tried everything I can think of to get Thunderbird to access the new profile location. Could someone look at one of the Profile.ini files I have used and tell me why it doesn't work? This is the file located at: C:\Users\Lloyd Ewing\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\profiles.ini

The new location for my user data is: E:\Thunderbird\Profiles\10z483c9.default I have tried deleting the parent.lock file. Attempting to run Thunderbird always adds another profile in Profile.ini. It never shows my mail folders, although sometimes is will display my address books.

After installing version 102.8.0 on windows 10 pro 21H1 and experiencing threading issues. I spent some time reviewing posts and bug reports. After doing so, It was clear that earlier versions did not exhibit these issues. So I uninstalled this version and installed earlier versions. In doing so I found that that each time;

• Upon installation, thunderbird quietly auto updates to 110 Beta 4 regardless of the installation version or "Check for updates, but let me choose" setting
• The current profile behavior cannot be reverted or removed even after uninstalling and then removing all thunderbird data from the system hard drive including the C:\Users\<user>\AppData\ and all thunderbird registry settings
• A percentage of Provision changes have no effect.
• The 110 Beta 4 threading exhibits lost email issues
• The 110 Beta 4 exhibits lost address book issues

My questions

• How do I remove thunderbird completely?
• How do I manage control and provision my profile?
• What or who is manipulating thunderdird provisions and updates?
• Given these issues how can I be sure that the email client is secure?

The question is simple. Why am I not able to choose where to install Thunderbird? I've tried running the install file as administrator and that had no effect. I'd just like to install the program somewhere other than my C: drive. Why is this not possible?

My Dell Latitude originally came with Windows 7, I upgraded it to Windows 10 and I keep getting an error while tring to install the latest version of Thundebird. "sorry, Thunderbird can't be installed. This version of Thunderbird requires Microsoft Windows 7 x64 or newer. Please click the OK button for additional information."

I've just installed Thunderbird, hoping to create a local backup for several years' worth of email on yahoo's server. It dutifully downloaded the last two years' worth... and then stopped. It continues to pick up any new messages that arrive, but nothing I do will get it to download any more of the past messages. What can I do to finish the process?

Very appreciative for any advice! I've been using email for decades, but am entirely new to storing it locally.

I have 112.0b1 (64-bit) installed. I also set up three different email accounts in it. Now I have found a problem that may be a problem with beta. I want to downgrade to release. My question is, must I set all three email accounts up again?

The problem in beta is that I cannot change de order of columns in all the message boxes. That means I cannot move the columns in the order that I want.
