Hi folks!
I had to configure a new email which I run from the Thunderbird platform. I backed up a year's worth of emails in a ZIP file before deleting the old email (apparently I had to) and I have followed the instructions to import the old emails. The imported file appears in my 'local folders' section in Thunderbird but these files appear to be empty. I cannot find information or previous questions addressing this issue so I would appreciate any suggestions. The ZIP folder is smaller than 2GB.
Many thanks in advance!

My waitrose.com EMAP account with Plusnet is closing. I intend to replace it with gmail.com, which I previously established to support a mobile phone that I can no longer easily use for particular reasons and which I have now also installed into Windows 10 on my PC.
I envisage retiring my old account, whilst retain the complete 'Local Folders' Waitrose structure for reference and historical reasons, assuming that Gmail will establish separate storage to it's own rules, below (or above?) my history.
Is this a reasonable prospect and can you clarify if Gmail will take over my existing Inbox - Drafts - Sent - Junk and Deleted folders to it's use? Or will Gmail install a separate enviroment to it's own design and function?
And will Tbird continue to include my history folder-set along with the new, in the regular Profile Backups?
I downloaded thunderbird AND AM CONTRIBUTING, BUT IT WON'T START! what do I do?
I have other email accounts which I wish to handle on the one page . Is that possible

One of the webmail services I use is closing down and I am starting to use Gmail instead. It was a straightforward service, which I used for nearly 20 years, but with limited online storage. I used Windows Live Mail (and its predecessors) as an offline archive (using the word in the conventional sense) of emails, locally stored (and backed up) in a large set of folders within WLM, only going online to offload mails from webmail as needed. I should like to do the same with Gmail, keeping only active messages online. But Gmail will not talk to WLM so I am hoping to use TB instead. I do not wish to synchronise TB and Gmail, nor to send/receive messages in TB — just in effect "import" mails from Gmail into TB, arrange them in locally created folders within TB, then delete them from Gmail. Usage of TB would be largely offline. Is it possible to use TB this way? I have read many useful question threads in the forum and some wiki articles but remain quite uncertain as to whether and how. I am quite old now and though I have used PCs at work & home since they first appeared I am not technically proficient... I have made the Gmail account POP3, which I think is right. I am aware only Inbox will show in TB and am happy to move messages from Sent, etc., in order to move them into TB. I'm unclear if I can set automatic delete from Gmail of moved messages: this may be an IMAP only thing. But I am happy anyway to manually delete them later in Gmail; we're not talking 1000s of emails. I'm fairly sure local folders can be created in TB. WLM (I think) saves messages in separate .eml files. I am unsure if that would be, or could be, the same in TB or if an extension is necessary. I have seen talk of mbox and maildir but do not understand when these issues arise. I am sure there are others factors I should take into account and some I have forgotten already to list here. I shall be grateful for any advice offered. I apologise for this long message: thank you for getting this far! Thanks again, Peter

I have installed TB 102 on mx Linux 21.3. The profile folder, which-- to add confusion to peasants like me, the name is now XXXX.release-default-- but that is not my question. I noticed that the profile folder was HUGE (13 gb!!), and when I looked inside I found that under ImapMail there are FOUR different folders: Imap.gmail.com-1, Imap.gmail.com-2, Imap.gmail.com-3, Imap.gmail.com-4, each with approx. 2 gb or more. What is going on? In TB 78 the corresponding folder (with mail from many years) was approx. 4 gb.
Please explain-- I like using TB, but it is a constant struggle for no good reason that I can discern.

When I installed the new version of Thunderbird, I lost all my saved email files, and I lost all the opened emails in my inbox, which I had been keeping there for further action at a later date. Is there anyway to recover my lost emails? Can I go back to the old version, and will my lost emails be recovered there?

I am trying to set up a new Thunderbird email account using pop3.gotadsl.co.uk port 110 and smtp-auth.gotadsl.co.uk port 25 which are the settings I have been using for years on my old Livemail account. Thunderbird recognises these settings but warns me that pop3 and smtp-auth do not use encryption and as such could expose my password and private information, Can you please advise me what settings I can use. Many thanks.

I have been using TB for many years. In previous version, filter rules data were stored in: MsgFIlterRules.dat file. I find no such file in TB 102. I can copy the MsgFilterRules.dat file from a previous installation, but where should I put it? The folder arrangement of TB 102 seem quite different from that of my previous version, which was 78. I am using MX linux 21.3.

Hi there,
I saved my Thunderbird emails (downloaded via POP) onto an external hard drive, folders only. I did not save the profile portion but I know what it is as I have a screenshot of it. Can it be used in my Thunderbird Mail profile that I currently have?
Is there a way to import these POP folders from the external drive onto my iMac (Ventura)? There are almost 95K emails to import.
Can steps be provided so that I can access these emails, please? I have a new Thunderbird profile that I can use.
Thank you.
