Two-step authentication adds extra security by making it harder for someone else to log in to your account, especially if they steal your password.

After you enable two-step authentication, when someone attempts to log in to your account with your password, Firefox will also ask for an authentication code from your authentication application for proof that it’s really you.

How do I enable two-step authentication?

Step one

Before you get started, download one of the following authentication applications:

Step two

Now that one of the applications is installed, we can set up two-step authentication in Firefox:

1. Click on the menu button at the top right corner.
2. Click Firefox Accounts from the menu (it will show your email address if you're signed in).
3. Click Manage Account. The Firefox Accounts Settings page will open.
4. Under Security, click the Add button next to Two-step authentication. A QR code will display.
5. Open the authentication app of your choice.
6. Use the app to take a photo of the QR code, or click Can’t Scan Code to display a code to enter into the app.
7. Enter the code generated by the app into the Firefox Accounts Two-step authentication section and click Continue.
8. Download or print your backup authentication codes and keep them in a safe place in case you lose access to your authentication application.
9. Copy one of the backup authentication codes to confirm that you have saved them and click Continue.
10. Paste the code and click Finish.

The setup of your two-step authentication is now complete!
