What is Mozilla VPN and how does it work?

When you connect online with Mozilla VPN, it hides your real location and protects your data from data collectors. Without a VPN, your connection to a site usually isn’t secure so data collectors can see what information your computer is sending out. Your IP address is also revealed to the data collectors.

How does Mozilla VPN protect me?

When you use Mozilla VPN to connect to the Internet, you use the IP address of one of our encrypted servers instead of your real IP address. That will throw off data collectors who profile you based on your location. You get to choose any server location from the dropdown menu and you can change it any time. When you visit a website without Mozilla VPN, that site’s server can see your IP address (your computer’s location).

How do I use Mozilla VPN?

If you have a Windows 10, Windows 11, Mac, Linux, Android, or iOS device, Mozilla VPN can protect you. To get started:

  1. Download the VPN through the official Mozilla VPN website or through the Google Play or Apple App stores for a small fee.
  2. Sign in to your Firefox Account or through the Apple App store if you're on iOS.
  3. Turn on the VPN by sliding the button so that it turns green.

That's it! Your connection will stay protected as long as Mozilla VPN is on.

  • Your subscription lets you protect up to five devices.

  • Mozilla VPN will automatically choose a server location for you, but you can change it at any time by choosing from over 30 countries. (The server location does not have to be based on your real location. It's the location you want data collectors to see.)
