I run a legacy machine on a VM. Firefox was automatically updated, and now does not work correctly. In particular, it does not respond to mouse actions until I click on another application.Please advise.

How can I establish a working copy of Firefox, and then keep it from being updated? Automatic updates do not, in general, allow me to continue working without considerable overhead because of required fixes.
