How do I restore automatic login?

Until recently (about a week ago), when I revisited a page that requires login details, Firefox would automatically log me in using the usernames and passwords stored in 'saved passwords'. This doesn't happen any more, and I'm wanting to restore it.

I have cookies enabled, Firefox remembers all history, the usernames and passwords are still stored in 'saved passwords', but I still have to type in usernames and passwords to every site I revisit. I've tried clearing the cache, the cookies, the history, and I've tried reinstalling Firefox, but no change. Any ideas?

I'm on Mac OS 10.6.5 and Firefox 3.6.13. Thanks.
