won't start as it says it already is .. even though I've done a 'cold restart'.. answer to look for xpicleanup.dat doesn't work as I don't have that file on my system
quite frustrating...when I first got messasge that firefox couldn't start I 'restarted' my system.. still got same message that another copy was running and I had to restart (or stop other copy).
Still go message. then tried cold start...i.e. shut down and then start...
then found msage about looking for and deleting xpicleanup.dat... could not find it on path suggested so I did 'search' for the file.. it's not on my computer and firefox won't start...should I just earse it and download firefox again

same problem today.. same message even after a system shut down and re-start.
I hope problem is NOT because I have a Windows 7 Starter Editioin on my new computer.
Can someone please tell me how to get firefox to run on my computer...thank you
Do a clean (re)install:
- Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
- Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
- Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
- It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates (%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates)
