mouse closes firefox instead of closing tab

My mouse is programmed so that CLICKING the WHEEL is "CLOSE" ... with most programs, it closed the program; in Firefox, it closed the current tab. In the NEW Firefox, it closes Firefox! And my fingers are so used to clicking the wheel to close a tab that I find myself accidentally closing Firefox every couple of minutes. Any way to make this function the same as it did with 3.6?
