After opening a new tab, when I click on my home page (the house icon), it duplicates and opens a second window...it's never done this before?

I just installed Firefox on a new laptop. Google is my home page. My opening tab is always Google. But, when I open a New Tab, it doesn't open in Google. So, I've always clicked on the house icon to take me straight to Google. Now when I do, TWO tabs open in Google. (it duplicates)
