Want to move Thunderbird profile to new computer. Downloaded a copy of Thunderbird on new computer. Followed Mozilla Support instructions for copying profile etc. (used external hard drive). No problems until I tried to open new Thunderbird. Got error message "Profile Missing".

Tried solution found on Support pages: ran thunderbird.exe -p that starts profile manager - click 'create profile' , then click 'new', then enter a short name (e.g., PROFILE) and then click the browse button to select and activate your profile.

Now when I open new Thunderbird, it runs, but it takes me to Account Setup page as though I never downloaded Profile from old machine. Thought maybe I still needed to run Import tool; tried that but it had no effect. I feel so imcompetent! What am I doing wrong???

My computer completely crashed on 2/1, which Microsoft tech support had me reinstall Windows. I have reinstalled Thunderbird, since I use it for my personal email. When I opened Thunderbird, I didn't get an option to reimport my old profile. I think I found my old profile, since it's dated from yesterday. I have attached a screen shot of the location.

I noticed that OneDrive has reconfigured my settings, so the drives are a little different than they were before. how do I save the old profile in Thunderbird to use that profile, since the new Thunderbird has already created a new profile?

Thanks in advance.

Hello all,

I've been using Thunderbird for more than ten years with zero problems. But with the last upgrade to 102.7.0, it's a total catastrophe. It behaves as if I had never used Thuderbird before. It does not know me.

I have many email accounts, tens of thousands of stored emails, nothing is recognized. It asks me to create a first email account.

The Thunderbird data repository _seems_ ok (it's there, anyway), but version 102.7.0 does not seem able to use it.

MacBook Pro 16", 1 Tb SSD, 64 Gb RAM, OS X 13.2 Ventura.

This is a bit of a catastrophe. If someone could hint at a way to repair this, I'd be enormously obliged.

Thanks!!!!

I had 4 email accounts on one domain with a previous ISP, but had to stop using that provider. I transferred my domain to Godaddy and got 2 email accounts for myself within the same domain, www.SuperiorOfficeStaff.com.

Can I transfer emails from the prior accounts to their corresponding new email accounts? If so, is it just a drag and drop matter or are there other things I should know.

Thanks,

I use firefox 109.01 on ubuntu 22.04 (snap package) and i downloaded text file successfully and firefox indicated that the file downloaded successfully and didn't change the location of the file , then after two or three days i opened the downloads in firefox and it showed me that the file is failed download and i have the choice to click on retry download then i checked the file and the file is not corrupted.

so what are the possible reasons for that and how to fix this problem.

thanks.

We have put user and computer startup scripts to detect and delete firefox from our enterprise customers. Firefox cannot be kept SAFe through InfoSec.

InfoSec and SAFe require the business be in charge of security which is what our customers understand. They constantly find firefox out of date and vulnerable. We have tried over and over to use the firefox admx files to force background update both at the computer and user OUs but find that users can uncheck the box and it remains vulnerable and out of compliance. Edge and Chrome can be controlled by the business (not end user) through group policy and kept up to date and we never find either out of date by implementing our policies.

Firefox constantly tells end users how to check the boxes and no group policy can enforce them as we don't see the registry updated even though we even put a registry patch in, firefox is still in the control of the end user and not SAFe. If you don't know what I mean by SAFe, check this out.

Hardware: iMac 5K, 27-inch, 2017 macOS: Ventura 13.2 Firefox: 109.0.dmg File Type: Disk Image

For an unknown reason my Firefox browser locked up in the middle of a session. A full system re-start failed to fix the problem – all other software Apple Safari, Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop and Microsoft Office etc. continue to work as normal. Both Bitdefender and Malwarebytes full system scans have failed to identify any security issues.

To remove any possibility there was a macOS issue I successfully recovered the operating system from the mac in Recovery mode.

As the Firefox app would still not respond to the normal app opening process I removed the failed app from the mac “Applications” folder using the AppCleaner app and downloaded a new Firefox app file from the Mozilla Firefox site. I then dragged the downloaded file to the mac “Applications” folder and while holding the control key Ejected “Firefox” from the menu - the “Firefox” named disk icon on the mac screen and showing in the Finder “Locations” disappeared. Following this I successfully dragged Firefox from the “Applications” folder to the dock.

When the Firefox icon in the dock or in the Applications folder are selected the error message appears: The application “Firefox.app” can’t be opened. Repeated deletion of the Firefox app from the mac, restarting the mac, re-downloading the Mozilla Firefox app etc. etc. has resulted in the same failure. In the interim I am using Safari for the web but want to resume using Firefox asap due to Safari’s limitations.

Am I missing something in the Firefox installation procedure or there is an unrecognised security bug in the system? This is the first time I have had any issue arise with a Firefox installation process on either Windows or Apple systems.

Grateful for any advice.

We have our downloads set to a network location, and ask to save in location. We have needed to apply the fix I found in a forum by going to about:config, browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel and change value from true to false.

However, when even going to a PDF on the internet, it is automatically saving to the network location. Can this be changed?

Thank you! Nicole

I'm trying to set up Thunderbird (version 102.6.1, under Windows 10) to work with my Gmail account. I hope someone can help me understand what is happening.

First I enabled IMAP protocol in Gmail. Then I started "Add a new account" in Thunderbird and entered my name, email address, and email password. Thunderbird displayed details of the configuration it set for me, which looked correct: incoming, IMAP with SSL/TLS; outgoing, SMTP with SSL/TLS.

When I clicked Done, Thunderbird opened a browser window in which Gmail prompted me to sign in. The correct email address was prefilled.

I clicked Next and was prompted for the password; I entered the password and clicked Sign In.

Gmail displayed a page that asked whether Thunderbird should be allowed to access my account. I clicked Allow.

The browser window closed, returning me to the Thunderbird configuration screen, which displayed both of these messages:

  • (Yellow background) Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration username or password.
  • (Green background) (checkmark) Checking permission.

So, Thunderbird seems to be saying that Google failed to authenticate me, and simultaneously, that it's in the process of authenticating me (although it never reports that it has finished).

If Google failed to authenticate me, why did it prompt me to allow or deny Thunderbird access?

If Google successfully authenticated me, why does Thunderbird report that it failed?

One possible answer is that I entered my password correctly when Gmail prompted me, but entered it incorrectly in Thunderbird. But I tested that possibility by copying the password from the value I entered in Thunderbird and pasting it into Gmail's password prompt. Gmail said it was correct, so in Thunderbird it must also be correct.

With the aim of migrating my profile of several email accounts from a Windows 10 desktop PC to a newly acquired Windows 10 laptop, I successfully created a profile backup zip file using the Export tool, moved the profile backup file to the laptop, and started to import from the profile backup. Both Windows 10 and Thunderbird 64 bit are at the same revision level on each PC - respectively Windows 10 Pro 22H2, 19045.2546 and Thunderbird v102.7.1 (64bit).

After about 20% of the import had proceeded, the import failed.

Error Console reported (extracted):

14:43:01.514 Uncaught (in promise) Exception { name: "NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND", message: "Component returned failure code: 0x80520012 (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND) [nsIFile.copyTo]", result: 2152857618, filename: "resource:///modules/ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm", lineNumber: 650, columnNumber: 0, data: null, stack: "_recursivelyCopyMsgFolder@resource:///modules/ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm:650:17\n_importMailMessages@resource:///modules/ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm:580:14\n_importServersAndAccounts@resource:///modules/ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm:248:16\n", location: XPCWrappedNative_NoHelper } ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm:650 14:44:24.738 <Provider> does not support changing `store` on the fly. It is most likely that you see this error because you updated to Redux 2.x and React Redux 2.x which no longer hot reload reducers automatically. See https://github.com/reactjs/react-redux/releases/tag/v2.0.0 for the migration instructions. react-redux.js:881:13

Looking at what had changed in the email window of Thunderbird, it appears that part of each of the email accounts had been imported, but without many of the expected email folders. The accounts appear to be active, as they demand passwords for validation.

I cannot interpret the Error Console report sufficiently to understand what needs to be done, apart from realising that an expected file was not found.

Can anyone guide me with what I need to do to get further with this? It occurs to me that the emails and folders I am trying to import have been collected over several consecutive versions of Thunderbird, over a few years - I don't know if that may be relevant.

I want to install an older version of WaterFox. (I have my reasons for doing so). I can download and install an older version, but investigating the version after the install on Windows 7 reveals that it is NOT the version I downloaded. But is instead the newest version available. I have tried several uninstallers and deleted profiles and strings in the registry but nothing seems to help installing an older version. Can anyone offer some advice?

Firefox 109 is horrible and I am trying to revert to 108. I have the "Old Firefox Data" file, but have no idea how to get ALL that info back into 108. I am so very upset and frustrated right now! So much wasted time. I cannot believe Mozilla did this to us with no warning!!!!!!!! I have seen some articles on how to get the info back, but I don't really understand them. I am relatively computer-savvy, but I definitely do not understand how all this works. Some "Firefox for Dummies" at this point would be greatly appreciated. I am on a PC using Windows 10 professional 64-bit with automatic updates so it's current.
