In my ongoing effort to divorce myself from all things Google, I have installed Thunderbird and acquired a MailFence email address. Today I finally got around to getting things configured, but I'm at all stop for now. This I cannot unravel. Loaded Thunderbird

Config T'bird for my old Gmail account - all ok, retrieving email headers and designed. All working fine.

Entered mailfence address and password into the "Add Email Account" and hit enter

Thunderbird responds with the "found auto config" text or words to that effect. - All Green - Hit Enter

Server responds with there's a problem with username and password

Ok. I go to Firefox and easily login to my Mailfence email account using the same account info that I tried to use with IMAP server...no problems.

Account info works fine for the WebMail service and fails for the IMAP service.

Now I'm really scratching my head; do the Mailfence webmail and IMAP servers use different account info?

Hello, I was hoping someone here might be able to help. I've had to re-install Thunderbird on a Windows desktop computer (likely after the machine had been formatted and Windows re-installed), and set up again two email accounts. I've also brought back the Thunderbird profile from a backup. Yet, several folders that existed before are no longer there -- including the Sent folder under one of the accounts, a Gmail one. I'm not sure whether the missing folders were under that Gmail account, or rather local folders, but I assume that either way they would be in the backed up profile. What can I do to resurrect those missing folders? Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Just want to ask, we are doing a backup on our emails in Thunderbird using IMAP settings. We wanted an individual backup of each user and do the manual backup by downloading all emails and zip the Profiles folder.

In every user that we added, we needed to remove each in order to create a new one. Before deleting the said user, there is a check box that says Remove Message Data. We check this checkbox. Just want to clarify that deleting the message data doesn't mean it affects whatever we had in the mail server, right? It is only being deleted in Thunderbird locally right?

Thank you.

I recently did a complete re-installation of Windows 10, then downloaded and installed Thunderbird, but cannot see the data files for Thunderbird. Before re-installation, there was Thunderbird data in the subdirectory C:\users\xxxxx\App Data\Roaming, but now there's no App Data subdirectory.

I want to paste the Thunderbird data into the user subdirectory App Data\Roaming, but there are no subdirectories.

A recent Thunderbird DAILY update caused changes to my layouts and headings. Also, when I tag emails now they are not in color although the colors in the list of tags are all still there. And a new permanent Filter Bar showed up that I can't get rid of.

I had hoped that a subsequent daily update might correct these problems but that has not happened. This is the release I'm currently on: 111.0a1 (2023-01-26) (64-bit).

I sure would appreciate help in getting things back to the way they were last week. Thank you.

I'm trying to set up Thunderbird (version 102.6.1, under Windows 10) to work with my Gmail account. I hope someone can help me understand what is happening.

First I enabled IMAP protocol in Gmail. Then I started "Add a new account" in Thunderbird and entered my name, email address, and email password. Thunderbird displayed details of the configuration it set for me, which looked correct: incoming, IMAP with SSL/TLS; outgoing, SMTP with SSL/TLS.

When I clicked Done, Thunderbird opened a browser window in which Gmail prompted me to sign in. The correct email address was prefilled.

I clicked Next and was prompted for the password; I entered the password and clicked Sign In.

Gmail displayed a page that asked whether Thunderbird should be allowed to access my account. I clicked Allow.

The browser window closed, returning me to the Thunderbird configuration screen, which displayed both of these messages:

  • (Yellow background) Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration username or password.
  • (Green background) (checkmark) Checking permission.

So, Thunderbird seems to be saying that Google failed to authenticate me, and simultaneously, that it's in the process of authenticating me (although it never reports that it has finished).

If Google failed to authenticate me, why did it prompt me to allow or deny Thunderbird access?

If Google successfully authenticated me, why does Thunderbird report that it failed?

One possible answer is that I entered my password correctly when Gmail prompted me, but entered it incorrectly in Thunderbird. But I tested that possibility by copying the password from the value I entered in Thunderbird and pasting it into Gmail's password prompt. Gmail said it was correct, so in Thunderbird it must also be correct.

After a long time, I've decided to reinstall Firefox on my PC. Upon installing it, I got the error "Your firefox profile cannot be loaded. it may be missing or inaccessible." I cannot start Firefox.

After looking online, I found this article on the support page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-run-firefox-when-profile-missing-inaccessible

I tried opening the profile manager, but can't get to it since Firefox won't start. It also is not accessible through using "firefox.exe -P" in the run dialog box.

So then I followed the directions and found my existing profiles.ini which pointed to my profile file. Wondering if it got corrupted, I changed the file extension to profiles.iniold and moved the whole mozilla folder to my desktop. Firefox continued to give me the same error message.

Finally I uninstalled firefox, deleted the mozilla folder under %appdata%, deleted the Mozilla folder under %programdata%, and deleted any mention of Mozilla in regedit. I finally reinstalled a fresh copy of firefox... and I got the same profile cannot be loaded error.

Is there somewhere that I'm not seeing that needs to be deleted to finally get a fresh install? I don't care about the original profile and am happy to start from scratch, but have no idea what I can still do in order to get to that point. Any suggestions on what I can do to completely remove any remnants of the original install from years ago?

I've migrated Thunderbird profile with lot of local folders to a new Windows computer, and almost everything works fine. However, few folders are shown empty in Thunderbird, and they certainly have some mail - I can see it in the corresponding files. When I look at a problematic folder properties it shows that its location is different from the actual file - some random 8 letters, and Thunderbird created an empty folder with this name. I've tried to remove folderTree.json, folderCache.json, and even global-messages-db.sqlite, and restarted the Thunderbird. The properties of the folder remain the same and the directory with wrong name is created again, and the folder remains empty. Other mail folders are fine - the emails are rescanned.

Where the mapping from local mail file name to Properties/Location is stored? I cannot find it with grep - the only reference I've found was in the files I removed, but the mapping somehow persists.

I am trying to migrate to Thunderbird from Outlook 2010.

I am using the TB import functions for Outlook on a machine with outlook installed.

All of my mail messages come into TB correctly except those in my "Sent" folders (email I have sent to others). In >90% of these, the email address I sent From and the addresses I sent To are all replaced with text names. This makes it impossible to "reply all" for example as the entities that should be addresses are only names.

A suggestion was previously made to turn off the Thunderbird option to Display address Book names instead of email addresses for contacts in your address book, but this option was already off.

I am about to try deleting my address book in Outlook and then import again and see if this "breaks any links" that might be existing in Outlook.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make these email import correctly?

Has anyone else noticed this behavior in the Sent mails folders when importing from Outlook?

Happy New Year all volunteers, In W10, after crash all my applications, and their setup/data got wiped out. Tbird worked before like charm. Then it was a new installation 2 years ago. I moved mail data from Vista Mail on a Toshiba PC to my then new GP PC, with W10. Now, I have to re-install all the apps, and try to import/collect data. Luckily, my Vista PC is still working, so I can recover things from there. So, in Vista Mail i exported contacts, tried .csv, and .vcf. Csv seemed to work, however the import in Address Book was not functional. The names and e-mail addresses were mixed up. Then, I tried .vcf: with a single contact it works fine, but not with a list of .vcf files. Then, I found the advice to create one .vcf file for all contacts via copy *.vcx merged.vcf. The file got created, and looks fine. The windows contact too can open it, one-by-one. Windows10 Mail can handle it also. But, when I try to import this in TB I got as far as START import. Then, the message "Import failed unexpectedly, more information may be available in the Error Console". I do not see error console, and more hints. I must tell, extracting contacts from GMAIL works too. But, unfortunately I do not have set up gmail so that it saved all contacts upon referencing, so I just have a subset of contacts there... Do you guys have a working solution, or is this a new chart again ? By the way, the TB version is the newest one, a guess it is 102. Cheers, Zoltan
