An automatic update of Firefox which resulted in a "quit/create new profile" choice has removed all my bookmarks

Of the four profiles stored in "about:profile" three are identical (ie. have only the default bookmarks stored) and one, generates a "quit/create new profile" message.

The "bookmarksbackup" folder (in /home/user/.Mozilla/Firefox/zs1jki8t.default) is empty.

The "import/backup" option (in Manage Bookmarks) offers nothing to choose. There is no 'list of dated automatic backups.'

Firefox did not create an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.

Browser privacy "strict". "Never remember history" was selected.

I'm running 96.0.3 on a fully patched Win 10 Pro system - both O/S and programs. When Firefox is running I'm getting these pop-up error messages randomly with changing content. They stay on screen for some seconds and then go away. Message states it's from (via) 5.back2yard.biz. I put that in my hosts file and I'm still getting them. My network is a cable modem hooked to Xfinity and then cable connected to another fully newer patched router. All addresses are 10. range. I ran both a Malwarebytes scan and a Windows Security scan - both are clean.

I'm unable to upload a small image after a hour so I'll give up on that right now.

My gateway had to reboot for tv issue. Everything came back as normal except for Firefox. It shows a blank page with only a search bar that does not function. Other browsers and programs work. Should I uninstall and re-install Firefox? This is the first time this has happened as I have had this browser for many years.

I intend to upgrade my desktop PC from Win 8.1 to Win 10 soon due to Microsoft discontinuing support for 8.1 next January and I want to know how to preserve all my current settings in Firefox (including saved Pocket articles). Also, does anyone know for certain whether or not Firefox will be automatically migrated to Win 10 in the upgrade? (If it does, maybe that will answer my first question?)

Following a VERY troubled update to Windows, which required several hard shutdown/reboots, invoked an automatic attempt to repair Windows, reported that the repair attempt failed, but then booted into Windows normally, the only thing that seems to be wrong is that certain websites report "Secure Connection Failed" with an error code PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR. Contrary to the support page, there is no option to report this to Mozilla; the only option is to retry. When I click retry, I get the same page with the error code PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR. This is not a problem with the website -- same website works fine in Firefox on both other computers in house, one running Windows 10 and one running Windows 11. This is not a problem with the operating system -- I have used both the system file check and distribution manager to check/repair Windows system files, and also successfully accessed the web page using Internet Explorer (Microsoft Edge is disabled in Policy Management). So this is clearly a problem with Firefox. I attempted to reset Firefox, but it didn't help. I then uninstalled Firefox, and attempted a clean re-install; I'm not sure how clean the reinstall was, because it detected the prior installation, and imported things. The sites I can't access include Wikipedia (of all things!), some links in the Firefox support pages, and my on-line banking website, which is pretty critical. Other websites work just fine, including most of my other financial accounts -- credit cards, etc. HELP!

Hi! I wanted to reach out to Firefox support about an odd issue that's been happening for the past month or so.

When I go to interact with an idle open window or bring a minimized window to the foreground, I'll randomly get no response and hear an error noise. Firefox never has any associated error messages, and it has yet to show "unresponsive" status when this happens in Windows 10. I'm wondering if anyone else is running into this issue, as it started roughly the same time with both my work and home PCs. Perhaps a recent Windows 10 and/or Firefox update is the cause...?

Hello, Since yesterday I found some problems with my firefox. In random moments top part of application (only menu, bookmarks, not actual website) is flashing. Sometimes as black square sometimes as white and black. It doesn't matter what sites are displayed/opened or which addons/skins are working. Nothing was changed between working OK and starting to do disco on my screen.

Steps I have done when trying to fix it: - Refresh app - Reinstall app (with clearing leftovers) - Removing all addons and using default skin - All drives on PC are up to date (and was before problem started) - Starting app in "help mode" (less flashing but still).

FF ver: 96.0.3 (64x) Windows 10 home with latest updates + Avast

Graphic card is OK, this problem only exist with FF. Using other browser solve problems but well... It is not FF.

Gif below (its that black single flash which is less problematic, but white one really is...)

The browser was working fine up to a few months ago but I didn't start looking into the issue until now

Youtube works fine but twitter, facebook and netflix don't load with error messages like "The media could not be played" and "Sorry, we're having trouble with playing this video."

I've tried different browsers and they work fine on chrome but not on Opera GX

I'm on windows 10 pro, so I don't have the issue with the N versions

Things I've looked at:

  • My internet connection is fine;
  • Firefox is up to date;
  • Cache and cookies have been cleared;
  • Add ons/extensions have been disabled;
  • Autoplay has been disabled and then also tested with it enabled;
  • Hardware acceleration was disabled;
  • Firefox was restarted;
  • I even downgraded to an older version

Hello/hi Yesterday (Feb1) I had a functional problem with my email site (provider = Orange). Sorting it out with the technician obliged me to refresh Mozilla (for various reasons I'm still on Wndows 7), even though I saw that I had the latest version. I believe that I ticked all the right bowes when doing the Refresh. When it had completed my Orange function duly worked again - but! I could no longer see my (quite extenive) Bookmarks. There's no loner any button to enable me to Bookmark a current page.. My efforts via the drop-down Get-Help-on-Bookmarks function have not worked either. So, please, I need your help! Many thanks indeed for both your excellent browser and for the help which I hope will be forthcoming! Best wishes, PT.

As of recently, Firefox adapts some elements (basically everything in the toolbar, like the downloads or browsing history) depending on whether it identifies the theme you use as light or dark. I am using a custom theme (this one: https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/tardis/?utm_source=addons.mozilla.org&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=search) that Firefox identifies as dark, however I absolutely hate any form of dark mode. So far I figured out how to force Firefox to use a light theme everywhere else using about:config, but I couldn't figure out how to change the abovementioned elemtents back to light without changing the theme. So is there any way to declare a theme as light or some other way to change this behavior?

My Digital Check CX30 Scanner has a communication error come up when trying to scan checks. This only happened after the latest update. I called the bank and the scanner is not the issue, Firefox is the issue. The scanner works on Chrome but I'd rather not use it. Tried uninstalling and re-installing Firefox. Added the website to the exception list for blocking pop-ups, added it to the trusted sites list in ublock origin. Still doesn't work. My IT guy is stumped. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Well my problem is exactly the same as in this post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1256699 My Firefox and my Widevine are both on the newest versions, I have this problem only with Firefox and its been that way for a while now, but it got too annoying so I'm posting about it now. The errorcode is also the same is in the other post (F7703 - 1290). This error also isn't findable on the official Netflix help side. It only affects Firefox refreshing the page or coming back a month later it doesn't matter it never works in Firefox anymore it used to work. In any other browser or in the app it always works. I also tried to disable all my addons and it didn't help. I hope it will be fixed someday, bye.
