Hello, I'm running a PC under Win 7 pro 64bits, 8Go, Intel Core 4Ghz and Thunderbird 68.8.1 (32bits). I also have an Androïd Samsung tablet and my smartphone both running my mail system. I have 2 e-mail mail accounts. I used to be pop. but now imap. The size of the whole mail data is around 4 Go (according to Mozbackup), while I keep deleting as much as possible. I think it's probably 3 to 4 times bigger than normal. It is very slow and request constant compacting directories. I guess my thunderbird is mixed up. If I look at my mail directory, I see the following sub directories : imap.gmail.com, pop.gmail.com, pop.gmail-1.com, pop.googlemail.com (?) pop.googlemail-1.com (?), pop.laposte.net, pop.laposte-1.net, pop.laposte-2.net. Obviously, some are not needed. Also, you can notice the SENT and DRAFT directories are duplicated on one mail account. I would not like to lose the contents of my local directories and possibly in and out directories. How can I do that. Thank you for your help.

I received a ransomware email two weeks ago after my account on another site was compromised over a year ago. This email seems to have locked my ability to send/receive emails with Thunderbird, but I can still access email using the web interface, my mobile clients, or even using Outlook. I deleted my account, and then when I try to add this account I still cannot validate to the Yahoo email server.

What can I do to clear this problem, since I use Thunderbird to access my three email accounts?

Hi all,

My S/MIME certificate recently expired and I followed the same process as last time to purchase/import a new one. After importing, when I go to Certificate Manager, the new certificate shows up in the "People" tab, and not "Your Certificates". So I can't select it to use for encrypted emails. In the "People" tab, the new certificate still shows my email address in the name/email address fields. I've been searching the forums/online with no luck. Any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

I used Thunderbird for a while, suddenly after restarting thunderbird appears blank. No e-mails are displayed. Most of the UI is not visible. Please see screenshot attached.

A click on the button with the three lines to go to settings does not trigger any reaction.

First workaround was to backup Profile, uninstall thunderbird, reinstall thunderbird, copy Profile to Thunderbild App-Folder (%appdata%). After a while, the same thing happened again.

I use Windows 10.

Sometimes I get the following message: “An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: relay not permitted. Please check the message recipient "x.y@hotmail.com" and try again" So I save the email in drafts, close Thunderbird Email, reopen then open draft and send - works every time. Thunderbird has started urging me to install 68.8.1 (I have 68.8.0), but when I click 'Restart Thunderbird' it just restarts with the same message and doesn't do it. It's also crashing frequently, not associated with any particular activity. I have been sending in the crash reports. Please advise!

I did an operation with Thunderbird, and it failed. A notification banner appeared in the top-right corner of the screen with a message from Thunderbird. The banner showed only two lines of text, which wasn't enough to display the whole message. I clicked on the notifications centre icon in the top-right of the macOS menu bar, displaying a list of notifications. The Thunderbird notification was at the top of the list. It showed three lines of text, which was still not enough to see the entire message.

How can I read the entire text of the notification which Thunderbird is trying to show me?

I guess what I expect is that Thunderbird will have an event log or console someplace, which has a copy of all the messages it sends to the OS's notification service. Alternately, I expect that the OS might have such an event log or console, in which case Thunderbird need not have its own. Right now, all I can find is Notification Centre, which truncates.

Apple's instructions for the Notification Centre say, "To open a notification in the app that sent it, click the notification." (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204079) That was not effective for me.

I am using Thunderbird 68.8.1 on macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra.

Hi I've just transferred my emails from my old laptop to the new one (Windows 10 and Thunderbird 68.8.1) and am trying to re-create the folder structure. The old email data was placed into a folder called "Incoming Mail", and I want to transfer those emails into sub folders. There are a few problems: 1 = Each of the sub folders is duplicated, with the second sub folder having numbers in its name. The emails have been spread over both sub folders for some reason. 2 = I can't create new sub folders or delete empty ones. I was able to move a few sub folders from the "Incoming Mail" folder, but could only place them in the "Drafts" folder. I've tried to move or create new sub folders in the "Inbox" since then, but nothing happens. I've also tried drag and drop and nothing happens.

I have no idea where to go from here. Even the guy who did the data transfer doesn't know why this is happening. Is this a common problem and can anyone help - the folder structure as it is is unworkable. Copy of the screenshot is below. Thanks Graham

A few weeks back I took a back up of my profile to keep emails etc safe and backed up. Luckily in one way I did as my email hosting changed and everything thing disappeared.

I have tried and tried to import the profile that was backed up but the emails do not appear in thunderbird the account name does but everything is empty.

Can you throw any light on the subject please. For info I did a back up of new stuff just to try and that didn't work either, when imported nothing was visible. I'm on win 10, latest version of thunderbird. Profile was backed up to external drive.

I have thunderbird set up with 2 imap accounts and 2 pop accounts. It has been working fine for months. This past week I can no longer download email from the inbox of the 2nd imap account. If I move email to another folder using web access to the email account, it will download to the corresponding folder in thunderbird as expected. All other accounts in thunderbird are working correctly as well as all folders in the 2nd imap account except the inbox. If have done the repair folder and deleted all msf files in all imap folders. The only thing I notice that is different is that the second imap account does not have INBOX in the corresponding imap folder. It does have an INBOX.msf file.

I have deleted and reinstalled the second imap account with no change in behavior.

Any ideas before I completely uninstall and reinstall thunderbird?

(Apologies in advance, somehow my original post got marked as "resolved", but it may been me: PEBCAK. Reposting with additional information.)

The rev 68.8 Thunderbird upgrade stops being able to read the existing profile, usually within 24 hours. (Windows 10, no custom profile. no custom anything). I get the pop-up box complaining about trying to read an old profile.

I can re-install Thunderbird (from the same downloaded installer executable), and then it works fine. And within another 24-48 hours, it stops working again.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

My next step is to completely remove Thunderbird (and all profiles), reboot, and reinstall from scratch. Um, have to back up local folders. Painful.

Thanks for TBird. I love it and sent y'all $50 a while ago.

Recently, and with increasing frequency, TBird hasn't retrieved messages from the Outlook inbox. The screenshot shows mail still in the Outlook box that I had to forward to get it to TBird, e.g, that from Gordon Lam. You can see it never made it to TBird and is still in my Outlook inbox but when I forwarded it to myself it was successfully retrieved by TBird.

Any ideas?

This morning I discovered 2 maps with the same: Van Baerlestraat 47-49. Both with the same content. I don’t know how it got there. I renamed the first one in the list “van baerlestraat 47-49 nr 1”. After sending an email I returned to the renamed map. It appeared as expected below the unchanged map. As the content was the same I tried to delete the second one. The message shown below asked “Do you know for sure that you want to delete the map? “ An error message displayed below was shown. Clicking removed the error message. I went on as usual. When I restarted Thunderbird both maps including contents had disappeared. End of story.
