I have successfully used thunderbird for years, but cannot add my gmail account. I read the google and TB docs. I have tried this several times. I must be doing something wrong, but not clear to me…

First, I did gmail steps:

1) log into gmail using gmail.com email address and gmail password 2) click on Setting “gear” in upper right 3) click on “see all settings” 4) click on “forwarding and pop/imap” tab 5) verify that “enable imap” is checked. Says “status: imap is enabled”

Then, I did thunderbird steps:

6) clear error log. click File / New / Existing Mail Account 7) enter 3 items: my name, full gmail.com email address, and gmail password 8) check “remember password” 9) click “continue” 10) TB says “configuration found in mozilla isp database” 11) IMAP option already checked 12) click blue “done” button

Then, there were some google popups:

13) in google popup, gmail address already entered, clicked “next” 14) next popup, enter same gmail password from step 1, click “sign in” 15) receive phone call for google 2-step verification and enter code 16) next popup says “mozilla thunderbird email wants to access …” 17) popup has 3 items: email, contacts, and calendar. click “allow”

Finally, back at thunderbird, it says in a yellow box: “Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password”. So fails to work.

I accessed settings / privacy / passwords / saved passwords. The list is empty. "Use a primary password" is not checked.

In case helpful, here are the messages in the error console resulting from one attempt (steps 1 to 17), with my gmail address blanked out:

This past Sunday, when I opened my email program, my mail would not open. It was asking for a password. I did not sey it up with a password. After a couple of tries, I got the message that my email had been shut down but it is now re-opened. I logged on my my internet carrier & they said they had not closed my email but if I was using a different email program that might be the problem. Once I signed into my internet carrier, I did start receiving some emails but I am not receiving all the emails that I was receiving before the message that my email has been closed but was now being re-open. Did something happen on your end that can possibly be straightened out?

Hey folks, I don't know if this is a new feature or whether I've just noticed it now because I'm getting a lot more e-mails from the US East Coast. I'm on US West Coast time. The time of the received emails appear based on the sender's time zone, not the time I actually received the email, in my time zone. Is this a feature? If so, can I modify it to show received time as per the local time? Thanks, Steve

I am using Thunderbird 102.9.0.

I don't know what happened, but now my default profile won't load.

I had two profiles. One was an old one I wasn't using anymore. I went into profile manager and deleted it specifying to delete the data also. That seemed to work.

However, now when I start Thunderbird I get the setup wizard asking me to enter my email address and name. I only have one profile. I looked at it and it looks fine to me. All my Imap accounts are there, my Local Folders, are there, etc.

I've tried creating a new profile and copying my old profile contents into it, but didn't work. I still get the setup wizard.

I've read through some other posts here, but nothing I've tried seems to work.

How can I get Thunderbird to load my profile. My biggest concern is I don't want to lose what is in my Local Folders as it has a lot of messages I want to keep going back years.

Hi!

I recently got Thunderbird (TB) re-installed in my new PC.

In the re-installed TB, certain mail threads are sort of compressed, so I cannot click and open older specific emails, or did not find the right method to do it. Also, Archive or Remove are the only two buttons active. The drop-down thread with Save As (and other options) has disappeared.

Can I still click and open specific emails in a thread in TB? If so, how do I do it? Am I missing something?

Can I still find the Save As option, to save email threads (as backup) outside TB, in my PC? If so, how do I do it?

Why are only some threads compressed? It seems to happen randomly. For example, the thread most recently active was compressed, along with some other, older threads.

All threads I refer to as compressed has a branching-like symbol to the left of the subject line. This symbol never appeared in my old TB. In my old TB there was never a problem archiving a thread outside TB.

Thunderbird version  I changed the cached connections number from 5 to 1. I turned off all devices and waited overnight. Still getting the unable to connect message today.

Yesterday multiple duplicate emails downloaded to my inbox. I have 10 emails of the same subject! My inbox is a complete wreck and now has 1450 emails. 1000+ of those downloaded yesterday starting with July 3 2022 to the present.

Please help! Why did this happen? How can it stop? Is there a way to clean my inbox up easily?

I have not found a setting in thunderbird that allows thunderbird to keep using and orange or yellow star next to new messages, at least for the same day, after opening any message. As soon as I open a message, all of the orange or yellow stars that indicate new messages disappear. To me, that is illogical and unnecessary. Is there a setting in thunderbird that would change this behavior and keep the stars beside the new messages?

Thunderbird 102.9.0 I am no longer able to keep my address book alphabetized. I have gone thru the View looking for any alphabetize method, but it's not on the list. I go through my address book yearly just to clean up, and it had been in order for years. I hadn't checked it since beginning of 2022. Now it's in random order. I do allow updates to download and run automatically since I've never had any issues with a Mozilla product. I have tried a restoration, however that did not change the address book. I have 2 computers and have Thunderbird on both. On one PC when I delete emails, they go into the Trash folder for that email account, but on the other PC, when I delete an email it goes into the Trash Folder under Local Folders. I must admit that I don't know the purpose of Local Folders, but that's beside the point. I just want deleted emails to go into the Trash folder for the email account in question. These are all POP email accounts.

Just build a new PC and moved my Thunderbird and Firefox settings to the new PC. I've done this a few times over the years and it usually works perfectly. However, this time after moving Thunderbird and starting downloading new mail, it is REALLY slow, taking 8-9 seconds to download each message.

I have always used the following locations to keep all the profile data: C:\mozilla.org\Users\Johnny\Thunderbird.slt C:\mozilla.org\Users\Johnny\Firefox.slt

When moving to a new machine, I install a fresh Thunderbird and Firefox, then copy over the entire folder C:\mozilla.org\Users\Johnny to the new machine. I then go and modify C:\Users\Johnny\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\profiles.ini and add a new profile block like this: [Profile2] Name=Johnny IsRelative=0 Path=C:\mozilla.org\Users\Johnny\Thunderbird.slt Default=1 When I brought up Thunderbird, everything looked normal. When I clicked on Get Messages, it first started downloading from my Comcast account, which normally does 2-3 messages per second. It was now taking 8-9 seconds per message. The next account it downloads from is Network Solutions and it is taking just as long for this account.

I've looked around in the TB settings and can't figure out what is happening. I haven't seen this issue with past migrations. Anyone have any idea what is going on?

I am using Thunderbird 91.8.0 and make use of tags to categorize messages. The tags are associated with colors and have names that I assigned to them. I.e. I am not using the standard 5 or so built-in names and colors that Thunderbird comes with but 8 tags with names and colors that I chose a long time ago.

For a long time, the title (i.e. the text of the title) of a message that I had assigned a tag to had the color of the tag in the list with messages (for example my Inbox). The background of the whole message pane was white. That is, all message titles were displayed on a white background in my message pane and the title of the message was in black when it had no tag, and in the color of the tag when it did have a tag (like here like here).

After a recent upgrade however, in my list with messages, all rows of messages with a tag now have a light shade of the tag color as background, i.e. not (let's say) red title on white background, as before, but red title on light-red background. I find this distracting and would like to change that back.

I tried forcing a white background for the message pane by adapting my userchrome.css like this, but that did not help:

treechildren { background-color: #FFFFFF !important; } treechildren::-moz-tree-row { background-color: #FFFFFF !important; }

Does anyone know how to restore my Thunderbird to showing a white background for all non-selected message titles in my message pane? Thanks so much in advance!
