In 78, TB only updated imap - inbox. Other folders were updated on request (click into foldertree or request sync all).

Now in 91, it seems to update everything all the time. (all folders).

Having 25 email accounts and 100s of folders, my imap server is at 80% CPU load at a 3 minute update interval per email account.

That ... really costs money, electricity wise.

3 minutes update for inbox is reasonable. The other folders need not be updated continously (but need to be synced for offlne on local PC).

Is there a setting for that? Playing around with 'Abonnieren' (File menu) and sync (account settings for email) didn't help, at least in how I tried it.

Anyway, it is not really clear what the difference is, but I think there is already a bug on that wording.

many thanks,

This new version, 91.0, now opens PDF files in a new Thunderbird tab. In previous versions, I could open PDF files in Acrobat Reader DC.

I want to still use Acrobat Reader DC to open PDF files. I can't find anything in preferences to direct PDF files to Acrobat Reader DC. When I right-click "open" on a PDF file, it does not give me the option to choose a program to open it with. It opens directly into a new Thunderbird tab.

Hey! I'm trying out your Firebird email program on my Mac Mini. I'm using a SONY 43 inch TV and want to see my emails side by each. After all, with the TV width, that's the way to see them! Well! I've searched and read and found all kinds of lies as to how to do it. I've even tried your "help" system - and you know what? No known instances in your extensive help system can find the words "Customization" or "layout" - or any other place. And, no correspondence re this option on the web gives me any clues. And, obviously this has been a concern for years!!! All kindsa people have had similar issues in the past! -- Please don't just point to places on the web because NONE of them work!

Is there currently an option in Thunderbird 91.5 to close/minimize to tray.

I found an extension but it is outdated and the answers I found are too.

I am asking for Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.3 but I guess if the option is there, it's there for other OSes.

I need some help please. Ever since I upgraded to Thunderbird 91 the 'message sender' and 'message date' are automatically appended as a suffix to the default filename(the message subject) when using the save-as command to save an email in the '.eml' format. This causes problems when attaching the '.eml' file to one of the software packages that I must use. Can the automatic suffix be disabled? Thanks.

After many years where I have used my company's Exchange server via Outlook to manage my own, personal, Tasks and Notes it's now time to move away from that because Google is now offering something good as an alternative.

Right now I have connected my Exchange account and the Google one with TbSync on Thunderbird 78.14.0 without problems. Before starting moving (or recreating) items I have tried to mimic my Outlook Task's view which is rather complex but I need it that way:

  • Group by: Category
  • Sort by: Completed; Priority; Due date; Name

So far I've understood that TB let me just sort by one field at a time... :-( I haven't found anything (recent, this https://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=1533455 is dated 2009!) about sorting. I haven't find any add-on too...

So my question is: did I miss something? :-) ...or it's just impossibile to do what I would like to do?

Thanks Giangi

When I selected the TB icon a window came up saying I must set up my existing email account. I fill in my name, my eddress and password. The next window that comes up shows TB found mobile.charter.net but my email was set up using email.twc.com. The port numbers are the same but the server names are different. When I complete this activity the end result is that my information if rejected. I attempted to configure it by hand but it too was rejected. I am using an HP desktop with the latest Win 10 OS. I don't know what to do.

I would like to run AUTOMATICALLY message filters on messages in my "bulk mail" mailbox. I can run those filters manually by selecting the "bulk mail" mailbox (just underneath the Message Filter box) and pressing "Run Now", BUT as soon as I close the box, the mailbox selected goes back to the Inbox (presumably the default). Is there any way I can force, trick, bribe or persuade Thunderbird to leave the Bulk Mail box as the selected mailbox -- so that the Message Filters will run on it and not my Inbox??? Any tips will be greatly appreciated!)

I have a large archive of old messages from various accounts. They take up unnecessarily large space because they have many html formats. I am not interested in their old backgrounds or fonts, or smileyfaces etc - it would be enough for me to keep only their textual content. Is there any extension that converts multiple messages to plain text by removing html formatting?

I will add just in case that I am not interested in simply displaying the message as text, or exporting a single message to a text file. I want to convert messages to plain text in my archive mail folder box while reducing their size.

Thanks in advance for all the tips.

Hi, my mom stumbled across a serious issue: she needed to change the font color for one message so she did just that in Preferences, but then it turned out she can't change back to the original color: now all text is white, it only displays upon being selected. I tried to have her go back to the Preferences, type "font" (in Polish, but doesn't matter) and it did seem to show three color controls, surrounded by unselectable (therefore invisible) text—none of these controls, however, was set to white, instead being set to dark hues. We changed them several times nonetheless, reset Thunderbird, reset the whole system... and nothing. The damn thing won't revert to the original status.

The pictures are poor quality, but I needed to guide my mom as she performed the screen printing so it took some effort to at least get these two. Nevertheless, you can see the white areas where the text is supposed to be, unless it's selected (in which case it's white-on-blue). Please advise.

Hey all -

We're running Thunderbird on a terminal server, and I was wondering if there was either a registry value or a key:value entry for the policies.json management option that would allow me to set all instances of Thunderbird, globally, for all users, to download headers only and otherwise use the server (which is on the same network as our terminal server) to pass the message content?

This would be super useful for us as we'd prefer to keep messages stored on our email server, rather than downloading more copies onto our virtual terminal server, and duplicating the use of our limited space.

Is there any way to do this, so that all Thunderbird instances would be forced to operate in "headers only" mode?

I have a dark grey background on the folder pane and the email list panes. How can I change this to a white background with black text. After looking at the support answers it seems that you have to be a coder to even attempt to change these settings. There should be a simple config tab for this, not having to go to a file and modify it to maybe fix this. If this is how your software works I will go back to outlook.

Hi,

I am running Thunderbird on my MacOS Mojave and through an disc managament app I found that Thunderbird is taking up 12 GB which are marked as System files. I'd need that space for something else, seems Thunderbird is taking up too much space. It also seems to be that my e-mail are taking up that much space. How do I do there are not stored there? Does anyone know how to clear the space?

I already tried compacting email.

Opening PDF does not autoselect option when asking for action

Hello,

I am using Thunderbird on both Linux and Windows and ran into the same problem on both OS after installing updating to Version 91.5.0.

Under preferences I have "Always ask" enabled for PDF-Files because I want to be able to choose the action depending on the document. I have the same config for Docx-Files.

When I click on a pdf - it opens a promt where I am asked what I want to do with the document - "Open with" or "Save" and no option is pre-selected. If I then press enter, nothing happens. I have to manually click on one of the two options and then press enter or "OK" to confirm the action.

With docx for example, it works perfectly. I get the same prompt but "Save File" is pre-selected. I can press enter and another prompt about the saving location opens.

I am guessing this is a bug since I only found this issue with Pdf-Files but if it is not, please let me know where to configure this option so it auto-selects "Save File" in the prompt.

Thanks in advance for any answer!

I am using Thunderbird 91.5.0 with Windows 10 and over the past months have run into trouble with the Qucik search function. I have 3 different email accounts combined into a unified folder and upon using quick search to look for emails from a specific sender, it will only display certain emails or only the emails I wrote to that person. This also happens when I tried to search the individual email accounts. I have disabled the Global Search and uninstalled the Conversations app but the problem persists. This is driving me nuts - any help would be much appreciated as I can't continue using Thunderbird if I can't fix this. Many thanks.
