I want to move Thunderbird local folders to an external drive (Seagate). I am working on a desktop computer with Windows 10. Where are the Thunderbird local folders? The files don't display anywhere in Windows explorer. I am able to transfer all other files such as jpg. and pdf. files from the desk top computer to the external drive by dragging and dropping, but I can't locate the Thunderbird local email files so as to be able to drag and drop.

Using TB to "archive" Gmails — seeking guidance

One of the webmail services I use is closing down and I am starting to use Gmail instead. It was a straightforward service, which I used for nearly 20 years, but with limited online storage. I used Windows Live Mail (and its predecessors) as an offline archive (using the word in the conventional sense) of emails, locally stored (and backed up) in a large set of folders within WLM, only going online to offload mails from webmail as needed. I should like to do the same with Gmail, keeping only active messages online. But Gmail will not talk to WLM so I am hoping to use TB instead. I do not wish to synchronise TB and Gmail, nor to send/receive messages in TB — just in effect "import" mails from Gmail into TB, arrange them in locally created folders within TB, then delete them from Gmail. Usage of TB would be largely offline. Is it possible to use TB this way? I have read many useful question threads in the forum and some wiki articles but remain quite uncertain as to whether and how. I am quite old now and though I have used PCs at work & home since they first appeared I am not technically proficient... I have made the Gmail account POP3, which I think is right. I am aware only Inbox will show in TB and am happy to move messages from Sent, etc., in order to move them into TB. I'm unclear if I can set automatic delete from Gmail of moved messages: this may be an IMAP only thing. But I am happy anyway to manually delete them later in Gmail; we're not talking 1000s of emails. I'm fairly sure local folders can be created in TB. WLM (I think) saves messages in separate .eml files. I am unsure if that would be, or could be, the same in TB or if an extension is necessary. I have seen talk of mbox and maildir but do not understand when these issues arise. I am sure there are others factors I should take into account and some I have forgotten already to list here. I shall be grateful for any advice offered. I apologise for this long message: thank you for getting this far! Thanks again, Peter

Dear Mozilla, Actually I have 2 instances of TB 102.11 on my Linux 22.04. One I guess the original, can be listed with apt list --installed and the other that I installed with flatpak flatpak list

Unfortunatellly I configured and starte to use the one cane from flatpak. I have set everything, mail rules, digital signature, . . . etc. Now the actual problem is that the ImportExportTools NG add-on is not able to export my mails. I guess the reason is that I have 2 installed TB instances on my machine. Please advise how I can realize which one I configured and use? 2nd request: how to remove the redundant TB instance while the necessary will not suffer any injury? Thanks. BR,

 Laci.

I have installed TB 102 on mx Linux 21.3. The profile folder, which-- to add confusion to peasants like me, the name is now XXXX.release-default-- but that is not my question. I noticed that the profile folder was HUGE (13 gb!!), and when I looked inside I found that under ImapMail there are FOUR different folders: Imap.gmail.com-1, Imap.gmail.com-2, Imap.gmail.com-3, Imap.gmail.com-4, each with approx. 2 gb or more. What is going on? In TB 78 the corresponding folder (with mail from many years) was approx. 4 gb.

Please explain-- I like using TB, but it is a constant struggle for no good reason that I can discern.

Outlook stopped working as of last night. If I install Thunderbird as my desktop email program, will I be able to set it up with my current desktop email address: [edited] @tx.rr.com ?

I've had problems with outlook since I changed network providers from spectrum to frontier. I have the incoming and outgoing server settings for frontier.

Since my current desktop email program (outlook 2016) does not work, contact me via webmail for the moment [edited] @proton.me

Thank you

Hello,

I've migrated Firefox and Thunderbird profiles from %appdata% dozens of times now, but noticed something odd last week when I migrated my previous computer's Thunderbird profile folder to new. I use Saved Searches extensively, and have dozens of them in various 'real' folders. (Real, as in, when I log into the web-based email systems that I have loaded into Thunderbird, I can see the folders - they just appear completely empty, which is of course accurate, because they only contain "thunderbird" things, not real email things.

My work requires me to use Office 365, and I had a few Saved Searches right on the "root" of that Account. Those ones survived the migration just fine and are working. However, I had a few subfolders on my old computer, things like "Companies" and "Coworkers" that each had a dozen saved searches in it for, obviously, companies I email with, and emails with specific coworkers.

None of those saved searches made it through the migrations; their folders are still there, but they are completely empty.

Is there any way I can do a migration that will capture these saved searches OR, even better, is there simply some internal database contents from my old computer I can get at, then just copy and paste that into the database of my new Thunderbird install? That'd save me some time not needing to migrate my 15GB thunderbird profile again.

I just found it interesting that my Saved Searches on the "Root" made it over, but the ones in Folders, did not!

Hello,

I had Tbird installed on a WIN7 laptop a couple years ago, but was not happy with it.

Moved on to Mailbird for a year or so, but not completely happy there either. Search function was VERY weak, and i have about 100,000 emails.

I thought I would give Tbird another look.

I decided to try to download it to a new WIN10 laptop, to get a completely CLEAN setup. My old one (on the WIN7) actually works.

After I downloaded it to the new WIN10 laptop, AT FIRST it tried to verify the account. That failed. Then, somehow, it seems to have skipped right over that step. In the meantime, I read (too late to help) that I should not input the password until AFTER the verification.

At this point, I cannot get back to the "VERIFY" step, and the auto-install has not worked. All the server settings appear to be the same as on the old WIN7 version. It just won't connect to the email and begin downloading.

I'm linking in to an old NETSCAPE account (via AOL), on a POP3 basis.

At this point, I've uninstalled and then re-installed the software about three times. Nothing seems to help.

what am i doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

I just installed Beta 114. I currently have a Thunderbird 102 installation with a POP Account. There are three subfolders to the Inbox on that POP account. I would like to import the folders and messages to the 114 installation but haven't been able to figure out how to do that. When I added that account to 114 I used IMAP instead of POP.

Thank you.

A few years ago Verizon outsourced its (POP only) email to AOL.When addint a verizon email account to Thunderbird, automatic account setup selects the old defunct Verizon POP server. AOL's imap server at imap.aol.com (ssl port 993) would be a better choice. Also, AOL supports OAUTH3 but I canot get it turned on correctly, maybe you could offer a how-to see [https://help.aol.com/articles/verizon.../verizon-move-to-aol-mail-setting-up-your-new-aol-account-in-a-third-party-email-program-or-mobile-device-imap]

I'm trying to move my profile data to a different local drive. I copied the profiles directory, and edited the profile.ini to point to the new location. When I start it up, for some of the accounts I end up with an inbox (in thunderbird) with mutliple (100s) of inbox files like

INBOX-1 INBOX-10 INBOX-100

When I look at the directory these are all .msf files.

How can I combine them into a single inbox file? It seemed to happen on two imap accounts, one on outlook, one on gmail.

When I installed the new version of Thunderbird, I lost all my saved email files, and I lost all the opened emails in my inbox, which I had been keeping there for further action at a later date. Is there anyway to recover my lost emails? Can I go back to the old version, and will my lost emails be recovered there?
