I've tried to use the settings I can see on the pc and do it manually, but I can't get the settings correct somehow and that fails also. My email client on the PC is outlook 2010. It is the same on the laptop. Thank you.

How I got where I am: 1) My hard drive started going out. I was unable to get a backup with Windows or 3rd party backup programs. I started copying what I could, just straight copy/paste, nothing fancy. Yes, there's the possibility of corrupted files at any point during this process, though chkdsk, etc. say otherwise. Supposedly, all the bad sectors have been detected and walled off. 2) Did a clean installation of Windows 10 on the new drive and started copying in the stuff I had gotten from the dying drive. This specifically included my Thunderbird profile. Thunderbird itself is a clean, current install (102.6.1...or at least that's what downloaded the other day--it's now asking if I want to get 102.7). 3) When I run Thunderbird, there are no addresses in my personal address book. It seems to have "collected" a couple from emails that I have looked at, but that's all. There's no abook.mab or history.mab to be found. There are abook.mab.bak and history.mab.bak files.

So, I need my addresses and...

What I've tried: 1) As I said above, I copied over the entire profile from the dying drive. Presumably that should have included both abook.mab and history.mab files. I am assuming that they were corrupted and were not available to copy. Looking at the bad drive, they do not show up; only the *.bak files. 2) I tried renaming abook/history.mab.bak as *.mab. Didn't work. 3) I tried copying the .mab files from a backup I took a while back into my current profile. Didn't work. 4) I tried renaming abook/history.sqlite and restarting Thunderbird, per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1306681. Didn't work. I lost even the few addresses that I had collected (yes, they came back when I deleted *.sqlite and re-renamed *.sqlite back to their original file names). Note that Thunderbird did not create new *.bak files the way the answer in 1306681 said would happen. The old *.bak files are still there (assuming that you guys aren't playing tricks with the date stamp on the old files...can't fathom any reason why you would). 5) I tried a few other things from the Support here, but don't have specific notes. Suffice it to say that none worked.

I've spent hours on this and have gotten nowhere. I note that the answers that I'm seeing here all have dates from at least a couple of years ago (or more). Has Thunderbird changed sufficiently that those older responses are no longer valid? Am I so short on sleep that I'm making newb mistakes? Have aliens infested my computer? Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks...

Happy New Year all volunteers, In W10, after crash all my applications, and their setup/data got wiped out. Tbird worked before like charm. Then it was a new installation 2 years ago. I moved mail data from Vista Mail on a Toshiba PC to my then new GP PC, with W10. Now, I have to re-install all the apps, and try to import/collect data. Luckily, my Vista PC is still working, so I can recover things from there. So, in Vista Mail i exported contacts, tried .csv, and .vcf. Csv seemed to work, however the import in Address Book was not functional. The names and e-mail addresses were mixed up. Then, I tried .vcf: with a single contact it works fine, but not with a list of .vcf files. Then, I found the advice to create one .vcf file for all contacts via copy *.vcx merged.vcf. The file got created, and looks fine. The windows contact too can open it, one-by-one. Windows10 Mail can handle it also. But, when I try to import this in TB I got as far as START import. Then, the message "Import failed unexpectedly, more information may be available in the Error Console". I do not see error console, and more hints. I must tell, extracting contacts from GMAIL works too. But, unfortunately I do not have set up gmail so that it saved all contacts upon referencing, so I just have a subset of contacts there... Do you guys have a working solution, or is this a new chart again ? By the way, the TB version is the newest one, a guess it is 102. Cheers, Zoltan

Thunderbird 102.7.0, 64-bit, Windows 10.

I just fell over this today but it may have been around for a while.

I have lots of email accounts. It was great when TB starting properly supporting a per-account (outbound) SMTP server, however, this seems to have newly broken. I fell over it today, but I don't reboot things for ages so I cannot pinpoint the start.

Here's the issue.

I have accounts on many mail servers, many on the same (mainly att.net, and gmail.com, as it happens).

Each one of them, to send mail, wants me to log in with an individual sending address. Fair enough. This used to work just fine.

However, suddenly, just the att.net addresses are broken. What *seems* to be happening is that the same, single login address is being used for all N accounts. Naturally, this breaks when the login address doesn't match the one on the From: line. So I have to futz around, fiddle around, and so on, and then things work. (I.E. I change the TB settings so that the outbound SMTP auth login matches the From: line, have to re-enter the password, and only then will the message be sent.) So if I have two accounts, x@att.net and y@att.net, only one of them (at a time) "works" with att.net - it's whatever I successfully used last. If I sent mail from x@, this address is being used (and it's in the account settings field. over-riding what was there before), even if I send mail from y@. Or z@. Etc. If I change the SMTP auth address to y@, then that account works perfectly, but x@ doesn't. And so on.

Now the weird part is this: my Gmail addresses still work perfectly. I can send from all of them without changing a thing.

The only thing I can see is that Gmail is set up to use oAuth, and att.net is set up to use 'normal password' (via SSL, so I'm not that bothered about security).

Did I unknowingly manage to break something? Is there a new tweak? Help!

i have windows 11. am on a pc with i-7. my TB version is 102.7.0

i get this error message: jpg could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences. i went to windows default manager, and 'photos' is the default for both jpg and jpeg files.

one TB source recommended going to Tools -> Options -> Attachments / Download Actions -> View and Edit Actions; but my TB doesn't have an 'options' choice under 'tools', and doesn't have an 'attachment' or 'download action' or 'view and edit' choice under any of the headings. my heading choices are 'file', 'edit', view', 'go', 'message', events and tasks', 'tools' and 'help'.

i found a 'config editor' under tools -> account settings -> thunderbird settings (when scroll to the very bottom of the thunderbird settings) -> config editor . there are many many , and i scroll down, but no jpg or jpeg is listed (even when i typed 'jpeg' or 'jpg' in the 'search preference name' box.

what next? please be patient and thorough and walk me through each and every step/click, because i am not very computer savvy.
