After decades with Thunderbird, I suddenly find I can no longer open my emails – and I'm constantly bombarded with one of the three messages (below). How can I fix this?

1 - “Server has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there may be a problem.”

2 - “Unable to connect to your IMAP server. You may have exceeded the maximum number of connections to this server. If so, use the Advanced IMAP Server Settings dialogue to reduce the number of cached connections.”

3 - “Sending of the message failed. The Outgoing server (SMTP) does not seem to support encrypted passwords. If you just set up the account, try changing the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings Outgoing server (SMTP)' to 'Password, transmitted insecurely'. If it used to work but now doesn't, you may be susceptible to getting your password stolen.”

Hello,

I use DAVx5 to sync Business Calendar on my Fairphone 3 (Lineage OS 18.1) with my Lightning (Thunderbird) Calendar on my computer (Windows 10). My calendars are hosted on Posteo.de. When I make an event in Lightning, it shows up in my phone, but not the other way around.

Itried making new events with each of my other 3 calendars that I have synced with posteo (Arbeits Kalendar, Task Calendar, WG Kasse Kalendar). All 3 of the other calendars work, just not Standardkalendar. The calendar URL in Posteo.de matches the url given in DAVx5 for Standardkalender (and all others, of course).

I already wrote DAVx5 support. I checked if events made in my phone at least show up in my posteo.de web browser calendar. They do. The guy helping me suggested it could be that Lightning does not chech E-Tag / C-Tags correctly to determine what's new on the server.

I also tried turning off "Offline Support" for Standardkalendar, but the problem persists.

Could you please help me solve this problem?

This morning I have started Icedove, and the calendar tab is not there, the two little icons at top right through which I usually start a tab are not there, and the keyboard instruction (ctrl shift C) has no effect. The Contacts Sidebar is blank when I write, reply to or forward an email. I have TB 91.3 running on Linux Ubuntu 21.1.

"Show Contacts Sidebar" shows a sidebar like in the attached image.

Please can someone help find a solution? I am not very technical so don't hesitate to explain in very simple terms. Assume I know nothing and you will be close to the truth.

My Google Contacts are linked to the Google Address Book by CardBook.

I have been unable to send emails with SMTP for the last couple of days, although it previously worked without problems.

System: macOS 10.14

SMTP Settings: Server: smtp.office365.com Port: 587 Connection Security: STARTTLS Authentication Method: OAuth2 Username: full email address

When sending an email, I get a "Login to account XXX failed. Login to server smtp.office365.com with username YYY failed".

Things I have already tried: (1) if I try to send email directly from Outlook, it works. (2) removing the SMTP server in TB and adding it again didn't work. (3) removing saved passwords in TB: if I go to Preferences -> Privacy -> Saved passwords, there is one line only:

oauth://login.microsoftonline.com (https://outlook.office365.com/IMAP.AccessAsUser.All https://outlook.office365.com/POP.AccessAsUser.All https://outlook.office365.com/SMTP.Send offline_access)

Removing that line and restarting TB will result in a popup taking me to institutional login, where I enter my email and pwd. I login without problems, but I still get the same error.

IMAP is working fine, so I am a bit unsure what the issue might be. I am not sure if SMTP passwords are stored somewhere else and that is creating problems, or if my prefs.js file is somehow corrupted (nothing obvious I could tell by reading it).

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I've been having increasing problems with Thunderbird not responding, and for that reason recently downloaded the latest version and re-installed it. Since doing so, my gmail history on Tbird has become chaotic. It shows a six-month gap between the reinstall 29Nov21 and the next most recent gmail message - 4May21. The history before that also shows many gaps and only a small percentage of the earlier messages. I can of course see the messages on gmail directly, but the gaps make it very unsatisfactory to use Thunderbird as my mail client as I have been accustomed to do, since checking for previous messages is completely unreliable. Displaying gmail messages received/sent since the reinstall seems to be fine. Can anyone throw any light on this and suggest a possible solution? There must be some glitch between my Tbird account and my gmail account. If I can't fix it I will have to abandon Thunderbird. My system is Win10 on a Dell Inspiron 15. Thanks.

I have been able to move my profiles and Thunderbird is working correctly. However, I cannot find/get my local folders (the TB equivalent of a PST file) to move to my new system so I can still have access to all those save emails and records. Been using Thunderbird for years. Love it. Recently updated my desktop to Windows 11. Ever since then it has froze on startup and is very slow to open messages and occasionally freezes especially when opening a message with attached images.

I'm running a 7th gen i5 which Microsoft says isn't supported but every other program I use on the system works normally. Its just Thunderbird that has "fallen over".

I'd hate to have to give up using it but it is becoming very frustrating to use. For example. On booting the computer this morning, Thunderbird sat locked for just under 3 minutes.

Anyone else experienced this?

Thunderbird just deleted all of my profiles. That's not good. There's nothing in the recycle bin. Is there any hope?

Literally the subject line says it all. I was trying to create a new profile (I already had about 7-8) It seemed to work but when I went to the new profile, it listed emails from a different profile. So I deleted that 'new' profile to start over. It froze up, and when it came back ALL of my profiles had been deleted. And there's nothing in ..../roaming/thunderbird/profiles. There's also nothing in the recycle bin.

This is very bad. Years and years of emails, contacts, etc.

The best part, of course, is that if you answer this post - it goes to an old email address of mine, which doesn't exist.

I am running Thunderbird Daily. I had a problem recently where a number of my mail folders got corrupted; mail messages were missing. So, what I did was to restore from a good backup before the corruption the folder and folder.msf files to a new directory. One corrupt folder is my Sent folder. I then copied the restored Sent and Sent.msf to my TB Local Folders directory as Sent-restored and sent-restored.msf (while TB was not running). I started TB and looked at the sent-restored folder. The messages are there, and they are intact. I then select ~2400 mail messages from Sent-restored and copy into Sent. When I look at the Sent directory, I see that all of these messages have been copied, and the directory seems OK - all the correct dates, recipients, and subjects. But ALL of the messages I copied now have the same text - the text of one (I believe) of the messages.

I have tried this twice, with the same results. What can I do to debug/correct this? Thanks.

I'm trying to move TBird from my Macbook Air to my iMac. I've followed the directions in the " Moving Thunderbird Data to a New Computer " FAQ, but when I start TBird it still asks me to set everything up from scratch. I've deleted Tbird from the iMac and installed it fresh before copying the Thunderbird folder from the Air to the iMac. This doesn't help. What could be going wrong? Why does Tbird act like it doesn't see the profile I copied over from the Macbook Air?

I have moved my email from the Gsuite to office365.

I have added a new email account to Thunderbird and I am receiving email fine.

However, my outgoing server (which should be smtp.office365.com with oath2) is repeatedly pointing me to the Google oath2 site for verification. I assume this must be a setting that is within Thunderbird that has not changed since. I have cleared all passwords repeatedly and removed cookies but am not having any luck.

Can anyone help?

Recently I moved from Thunderbird 52.9.1 > Thunderbird 9* OSX 10.14.6, and now with noticed, that when I create new message, and add some info to or cc or bcc area, then after saving this message, the to or cc or bcc content is deleted.

Why and how to fix it?

Hi, I live in the UK and my main thunderbird email does not send emails ...i can recieve them....i use virgin media as my ISP and i have checked that my email works on their Web based email & it works fine. Summary :- I have 2 email addresses, ,,,,,my main account does not send. i have another account and it works fine .. i entered a new password in the second account , saved the new password in password manager for the 2nd account ..All good with that .

There is NO saved password for my main account as i removed it thinking it would cure the issue ...err No it did'nt . When i open Thunderbird on my main email , it asks for a password ...now being as i removed the password requirement ...is this a contributing factor .......

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,

I'm using Thunderbird 91.3.2 (32-bit) running in windows 10.

Just before (or during) the update to this version the reply all button disappeared from my message panel. I can add one to the top most pane (next to the panes) but not to the message panel where it was before.

I've tried rebooting in safe mode and have it "replace" (mine is not the english version so I don't know the english word) toolbars and controls and also tried to disable all the extras to no use. I've disabled all the extras manually and no luck.

When I use my right mouse near where the button used to be nothing comes up. Nor when I use the right click in any other button in the message panel.

Is there anything else I can do?

Ah, yes, this being windows I logged out of my session and logged back in.

It seems to me that Thunderbird 91.3.2 has a flaw when it comes to adding a caldav calendar. I am running a calendar on nextcloud, but adding it to Thunderbird ran into the following problems:

1) During setup, it asks me for my Google account login. Should be irrelevant.

2) After ignoring the Google login requests, it does set up the calendar. However, in Troubleshooting Information it shows up as an "ics" calendar.

My solution: I edited the Thunderbird Profiles prefs.js file, replacing "ics" with "caldav" - and just like that everything works.

Recently I moved from Thunderbird 52.9.1 > Thunderbird 91.2.0, OSX 10.14.6, IMAP, and now when incoming message contains attachment, for example pdf, and I click the attachment, only 27 byte file is downloaded and the file is reported as corrupt. After changing "mail.server.default.fetch_by_chunks = true > false" attachment opens fine inside the message and after that I can drag and drop it to desktop or use "Save all" or at right click "Save as..." and the file is OK.

But when I don't click/open attachment and just drag and drop it to desktop or use "Save all" or right click "Save as...", again only 27 byte file is downloaded (file is corrupt/damaged) and taskbar shows forever "Downloading message..."

So seems that without opening attachment first inside the message, simple drag & drop won't initiate attachment download process. However, this was working fine in Thunderbird 52.9.1, so is this a bug (if so how to fix it) or a feature?
