After decades with Thunderbird, I suddenly find I can no longer open my emails – and I'm constantly bombarded with one of the three messages (below). How can I fix this?

1 - “Server has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there may be a problem.”

2 - “Unable to connect to your IMAP server. You may have exceeded the maximum number of connections to this server. If so, use the Advanced IMAP Server Settings dialogue to reduce the number of cached connections.”

3 - “Sending of the message failed. The Outgoing server (SMTP) does not seem to support encrypted passwords. If you just set up the account, try changing the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings Outgoing server (SMTP)' to 'Password, transmitted insecurely'. If it used to work but now doesn't, you may be susceptible to getting your password stolen.”

The Contacts Sidebar is blank when I write, reply to or forward an email. I have TB 91.3 running on Linux Ubuntu 21.1.

"Show Contacts Sidebar" shows a sidebar like in the attached image.

Please can someone help find a solution? I am not very technical so don't hesitate to explain in very simple terms. Assume I know nothing and you will be close to the truth.

My Google Contacts are linked to the Google Address Book by CardBook.

Hi,

I'm using Thunderbird 91.3.2 (32-bit) running in windows 10.

Just before (or during) the update to this version the reply all button disappeared from my message panel. I can add one to the top most pane (next to the panes) but not to the message panel where it was before.

I've tried rebooting in safe mode and have it "replace" (mine is not the english version so I don't know the english word) toolbars and controls and also tried to disable all the extras to no use. I've disabled all the extras manually and no luck.

When I use my right mouse near where the button used to be nothing comes up. Nor when I use the right click in any other button in the message panel.

Is there anything else I can do?

Ah, yes, this being windows I logged out of my session and logged back in.

Hi everyone, I create a new folder when I start a conversation with each client, and I am a massive user of the message filters, so when I receive an email, the filter moves it to the proper folder, and I see who is writing to me just observing the left column.

My problem is that, for any reason, I also want to double-check emails location/position, as it is possible in Gmail online where I can see the TAG Location of the email, at least in the All Mail folder. Instead, Thunderbird has no available options to get this information, even though there is a location or tag column to switch on.

Also, I might have emails with double tags on Gmail, and I don't know how TB can manage this option.

Do you know if there is an app for getting this feature?

Thunderbird updated this morning and ever since my Wacom (intuos PT S) tablet has not been function properly with thunderbird, all other programmes are working normally with the tablet.

I have restarted thunderbird in Troubleshooting mode and that brought back some functionality but still having issues. Updated the tablet driver also.

the tap as click function is not working properly- its clicking things underneath the email window, or not responding to clicks at all, if I have a email window open it wont let me selected different folders.


Drag function not working in folders but will work intermittently in email window, have to click and hold to get scroll bar to work,

Any help would be appreciated

Firstly, I'm aware that large attachments may not copy to sent folder. For me, sometimes standard emails do not copy to sent. This issue has been around for ages now. You need to post a definitive solution to this FAQ - trawling through endless opinions to change this or change that is not useful. Is it a gmail issue? Is it NOT a gmail issue? If not, what is the fix? I'm running on Mac OS Catalina, 10.15.7 Thanks. Rory.

I'll explain by means of an example.

When I send a message, both Thunderbird and my email service allows me to alter the 'from' address. I place an underscore character after my id and some chosen text.

So, I send FredCo an email message from this address: [my id]_fredco@[my domain].co.uk .

FredCo replies to the same address (and possibly stores email address).

My email delivery service recognises the address format and delivers FredCo's message to me. Because of the address format, I can see that the message is from FredCo.

(If I receive a message with that address from someone else, I know that FredCo has released my email address.)

Now when I reply to FredCo's message, the 'from' address defaults to my basic id, [my id]. And that's the problem.

I want it to default to [my id]_fredco because if I forget to change it, FredCo will record a new address, and I won't be able to detect whether FredCo has passed that email address to some other organisation.

OK, I could set up a new id for use with FredCo, but I would need dozens of similar ones - one for each person or company I contact.

Is there a solution to this problem or an add-on that will achieve this?

How I could disable the single message search (message open, press ctrl+F) from automatically going back to the top of message while searching a phrase from within single e-mail message?

Why I cannot get alert pop-up saying: "You reached the end of the message. Do you want to continue from top" and Thunderbird insisting on me selecting "yes" or "no"?

In other words, what advantage I or Mozilla gets from me missing the pale gray text "Reached end of page, continued from top" on white background while I'm trying to find the search phrase in certain context on my mail message?

Thunderbird version: 91.3.2 (32-bit), Windows 10: version 10.0.19043 Build 19043
