Hi, I hope someone can help me.

I'm using Thunderbird Version 102.4.1 on a 7 year old laptop and it's getting to the end of life with numerous driver and non responding problems. Also, it is not compatible with Windows 11. I have linked 3 Yahoo mail and 4 Gmail accounts to Thunderbird on it and they work really well. All are IMAP server settings. I have just bought a new laptop, an early Black Friday deal, and hope to set it up the same as my existing one, so when the old one dies, as it's likely to, I will still have access to the same programmes and emails.

I know I can access Gmail emails direct on any device and they are always up to date - is that called synced? What I don't know is if all email accounts will be synced or the latest - if I use Thunderbird on both laptops. If I delete an email on one device will it be deleted on the other device.

If this is possible, do I download Thunderbird on the new laptop, then set up the accounts for each email and just enjoy from there, OR do I have to copy the profile from the old device to the new one.

I love browsing, streaming etc. but hate trying to get my PC set up or sorting out problems with it. Presume I know very little if you are replying. I have never had two working laptops before so never had to worry about syncing.

I just upgraded from TB 91.something to 102.5. (No, I didn't install 102.0, I just upgraded in the usual in-app fashion.)

(1) My saved-search folders are non-functional -- just blank lines. (2) Even the Saved Search item on the File>New menu is completely absent. So I also can't create new ones.

(Help! One of these functions as my "true" inbox for virtually all incoming email.)

FWIW: Windows 10 (latest rev) on MS Surface Pro.

After several recent updates (ie continuing issue) the spell checker is disabled. Re-installing it solves the problem.

On editing/composing a reply all text is shown as red/UL (ie spell error). Reinstalling the English (Canadian) language pack and restarting TB restores it until the next update.

This occurs on 2 machine Win 10 22H2 version. TB currently 102.5.0 (64-bit).

Hello, Each time a new release comes (102.4.2 actually) and I accept the upgrade, the problem reappears : it is impossible to load any mail from previously configured POP3 server (gmail or others). It is also impossible to send emails with previously configured SMTP server. In this case, the only solution I've found consists of:

 - creating a new profile.
 - configure POP3 and SMTP accounts, which now works (!).
 - transfer emails and abooks from old profile to the new one.

The profile corruption occurs during upgrade process and I think that the bug is located in this upgrade process. This is not related to a wrong security configuration or wrong password. Notice that the problem occurs on two PCs on two different locations. The common point to both these installations is that the profile is located on a NAS rather than on the default directory... I've not tried to perform a software update with the default directory. Thank you for your help. C. Capel

Problems after Thunderbird to version 102

After updating Thunderbird to version 102: a) All my open emails have disappeared b) my favorite folders have disappeared (that's easy to fix) c) there are new empty folders with strange names ("e78s4d3"). d) some filters no longer recognize folders

How can I recover bookmarks with open tabs?

By the way, I found that changing the setting:

Start> Settings> Time and language> Region and language> Administrative language settings> Administrative> Language for non-Unicode programs> Change the system locale.

to another language because Thunderbird crashes completely. The program cannot even find a folder with emails if the user has letters from alphabets other than English in his name. Just change the language, restart your computer and Thunderbird doesn't work.

(I didn't think Thunderbird was using the settings for non-Unicode programs)

Hi, and sorry for asking what are probably questions asked before, but:

Can a user have more than one Thunderbird account on their system? I tried loading a second account the other day, but never found it. This may have been due to me not changing the location of where I wanted the new account to be loaded to, but I'm not sure. I need to create a new email account due to changes to my ISP, which I actually changed long ago. But until now, for whatever reason, I've still been able to use my Thunderbird email that's tied into my former ISP, even though I no longer am a customer of theirs. So maybe they just caught on to this, but not sure. I'm still able to use their webmail without any problems, but those webmail systems do not compare to Thunderbird email, as I'm sure you all know.

Anyhow, what I'd like to do, is create a new Thunderbird account on my Windows 10 system, tied into my new ISP, but keep my old account active until I can forward mail stored in its folders into my new account, so as not to lose those messages.

My email issue is a strange one, for sure. My current ISP forwards my mail to my current Thunderbird account, but that account is still tied into my former ISP, even using its name in my email address.

Thank you ~ Bill

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and migrated my old MacBook Pro to the new one. Thunderbird did not migrate with all the other apps. Firefox moved fine, bookmarks and all. I found the article "Moving Thunderbird to a New Computer" and have tried several times to follow the instructions with no success. The new computer is running OS 13.0.1. Both computers have Thunderbird 102.50 installed. Any Ideas? My main concern is losing the email history (sent, received and archived) on the old computer. Thank you.

Moving thunderbird data to a new computer WHEN SERVER IS DOWN

Hello.

I've followed the steps in this article with no luck: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

I want to move the thunderbird data (emails) to a new computer. I copied the "Thunderbird" folder when the mail server was still alive. Now that the server is down (and it no longer exists), I've pasted that folder to a new computer. When I restart Thunderbird, I can see the messages in the inbox but after a minute or so, it all disappears and I cannot see the emails anymore.

I think this happens after Thunderbird tries to connect to the server requesting for more emails but the server is down so it receives a "timeout" error.

Is there a way to disable this request to the server and/or what should I do in order to view the emails?? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much in advance

So as far as I know the way to move profiles between computers is supposed to be pretty straight forward - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

However I seem to have a problem with the process in that often times when I get the profile to the new computer when I open TB I see many of my local folders are non-exsistant. It usually takes me several times to make the move until I get the complete profile to transfer. I have even tried compressing the profile and moving it that way which never resulted in better results. Now recently I transferred another profile and it appears all of the folders showed up but maybe around half of them are empty the emails themselves never made it. And some are partial full where a folder that should have 50 messages only has 5. These are all local mails I am referring to since I keep the IMAP mail folders empty everything gets moved to local. I also checked the size of the profile folder it shows it is about the same size on both computers before and after the move around 1.5 GB. I have tried various approaches to copy from the entire Profile folder down to just the Local Folders folder without much success. It seems I just need to keep re-copying the folders half a dozen times until all messages seem to move over. This is not something new it has been an issue for several years on both windows and linux machines and the transfer is taking place between systems of like o/s and the same version of TB. Any thoughts on why this happens?

Linux Debian 11 TB = 102.5.0

THANKS
