I use one account on several machines, one machine = one user. To sort the answers, we need to know from which machine the e-mail was sent, when the recipient replied. For example info@domain.com - machine 1. We used Bat before, where the reply address was set as "info@domain.com - machine 1" but on Thunderbird is this address this doesn't work.

Have somebody that has a gmail account (they took care of all non-gmail content) and they want to reduce their google footprint, and asked me to help.

It's been a long time since I had to do something like this, so I thought I would ask a few questions before just blindly stumbling around. they have about 8Gb of emails, and want to see if we can do the following: - keep the gmail account - copy all the gmail/gtask data to a pc with their PC email client - reduce the foot print in google so that perhaps only the last year or so's worth of emails are in the gmail cloud (maybe about 200Mb) - keep thunderbird synced with the gmail account (they use it with other devices also)

I will install the app and check it out, so hopefully I'll know the answer to some of these questions below anybody responds... just thought if they are quick and easy to answer, this post might help shortcut the effort.

questions: 1) does thunderbird support google tasks, natively or with an add-on? 2) is there a way to migrate data older than a certain date with Thunderbird? 3) is there a way to keep it synced AND ONLY KEEP gmails in the google cloud NEWER than a certain date? 4) are there any issues with a large migration like this, causing message duplicates etc. (I remember this kind of problem 10 or 15 years ago with Comcast and others) 5) any quirks with this kind of POP3/IMAP setup and Thunderbird?

Hard drive failed on Windows 10 computer. Installed a new one and cannot get archived email onto the new platform. However, I was able to get it to work on iPhone and iPad by deleting the account from both devices and used the automated method of adding them back. They worked fine but the settings were changed to AOL SMTP Server with OAuth 2.0 Token Authentication which doesn’t seem to be a setting Thunderbird uses.

I even tried uninstalling TB and reinstalling, but no luck with that either. I copied the Profile to a thumb drive first just in case the reinstall deleted them but they were still there.

Apparently whatever happened affected other mail programs as well. It’s seems to be something with the password. Just haven’t found the right fix yet. I referenced the link below.

Multiple problems after Thunderbird update. On two separate computers, mine and my wife's. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS desktop, Ubuntu updated Thunderbird last night to 91.5.0 (64bit). Consulting dpkg.log shows the previous version installed was 78.14. These are distributed by Canonical.

One of my accounts and all it's folders and sub-folders disappeared. Same on the second computer with many more folders in the deleted/missing account.

My filter entry to move some incoming messages from extant account to the disappeared account now unchecked. Have not checked other computer, but expect same behavior.

Many messges to one of my local folders sent to spam. Also new incoming to my one "good" account going to spam.

First, what happened with the new release?

Second, any chance to recover? There are backups of the .thunderbird files

I am trying to manually migrate my thunderbird accounts from my 2018 mac mini to my new 2021 mac mini M1 and I am having a heck of a time doing it. I have already invested over 4 hours to no avail. Maybe you can help: So I copied the profiles file from the old computer and dragged it over to the desktop of the new computer. I then opened the Thunderbird library folder under Go/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles and have tried both deleting the existing files (and replacing them with the files from the original mac) and also tried just copying the files from the old profile folder and adding them to the two existing files in the new mac profiles folder. I then close the folder, close the program and restart the program and in every instance this is the error message I get: " Profile missing; your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded.....". I've tried every iteration I can think of and the only way the program opens is when I get a fresh install and fill out the fill in's when opening the program. Is there some sort of tool I can use to simplify this process? I am at witts end and I have no idea what I am doing wrong as I have tried everything. I barely understand computer code, so the answer has to be simple for me to understand what to do. I'd pay someone to walk me through it at this point, as I need to get this thing installed. Thanks.

Just copied the contents of our old Win7 laptop Thunderbird profile to a new Win10 TB profile. The new Win10 already had TB installed and had 2 accounts. 1 pop account (AOL same email address acct copied form the Win7 TB early last year when the new W10 purchased) and 1 Comcast imap account with a new email address never used on the old Win7 laptop. When I copied the Win7 profile contents I knew it would replace the pop account (only used to receive email with links, etc) with the up to date Win7 messages and local folders which is what I wanted to do. What I did not expect is that the imap account would not be there. The one local folder that was created on the Win10 TB was also missing but I simply copy the 2 files with the folder name from the Win10 backup and now that folder is there along with the local folders transferred from Win7 TB. I tried copying the Imap folder which was just under the profile folder from the Win10 backup and the account is still not on the Win10 current TB. Is there another file that the transfer overwrote that I must find in the backup?

I may have asked this question before, but I an running on my new mac mini M1, and I cannot find the original question online, so here goes (again): I am in the process of manually migrating from a 2018 mac mini to the 2021 Mac Mini M1. Because I didn't want to possibly infect the new computer with minor issues I was having with the old computer, I figured it would be pretty easy to do the migration as I am not an "app heavy" user.

Before attmepting to migrate my Thunderbird Profiles, I went online and read a bunch of articles and watched quite a few movies on how to isolate the "Profiles" folder in the library (click on GO and option at the same time to click on Library, and then Thunderbird) to find the profiles folder, to copy it, and to place it on a removable hard drive to be transferred to the new mac and it's fresh Thunderbird install. Information noted, and I copied the profiles folder with just 2 files in it: 02estxxx.rick and 4omw47xx.default from the old computer.

On the new computer I did the fresh install of the Thunderbird program, then after opening the program and closing it, I went to the Applications/Thunderbird/Libraries/Profiles on the new computer and one many of my several attempts to transfer the profiles I did both: a. Open the profiles folder and delete the original profiles folders and replaced them with the profiles folders from the original computer (on one attempt) AND on another attempt, replaced the WHOLE profiles folder on the new computer with the original profiles folder from the original mac mini. In both instances it was a no go and I neither got my old emails nor my address book from the old computer. What I ended up doing (was to open Thunderbird) and Manually populate the IMAP settings on each of my email accounts to get them to show up, but what I didn't get was my contact emails. So now when I try to send someone an email, I type in their name in the To: part of the email and it doesn't populate with their email. Now I have to go to an old conversation in one of my own folders to copy their email address from there to put in the to: field. I hope I am describing this accurately. I'm not a computer guy and I have spent more hours on trying to figure this thing out than I care to admit. I sure would like to have some suggestions spelled out in an easy format so I can figure out how to manually migrate my address book from the old Thunderbird program to this new Thunderbird program. Attached is a photo of my Library\Thunderbird\Profiles folder on my new computer after I added both of the old files from the old computer to the files IN the new computer, if that helps.

Hello

Many thanks if anyone can simply answer these 3 queries for me!

I don't need explanations etc - even just a 'yes' or a 'no' would be sufficient for me. Or just clear step-by-step guidance as to how to do something.

QUERY: 1. Should I just wait and see if this latest version of Thunderbird will download itself automatically? . . (Though I'm getting fed up with this message coming up every time I go to my emails, and wish I could find a way to shut it up!).

QUERY: 2. How can I be sure that any new version of Thunderbird won't go and alter/remove any of the current features that I like and am accustomed to?

QUERY: 3. If I found it had altered/removed features that I liked etc, could I ever get these re-instated?

MY PROBLEM When I click on 'Download Thunderbird' nothing happens, except that I'm taken to here: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-GB/ No download happens, or not any that I can see. I feel like I've been taken to a 'cul de sac' instead!

Along with this message is always 'We'll help you download it'. Er.... what 'help'?

I've been able to connect Thunderbird to thee IMAP and SMTP servers for my webmail account. I can see the inbox and all other folders fine but when it comes to downloading messages I've run into a problem.

If I click on a folder that I know has new messages in it, Thunderbird will announce "sending login information" and ":downloading nn messages from (folder name)." This works OK for 3 or 4 folders, but after that Thunderbird only says "sending login information" and downloads no messages from folders that I know have new messages. It also updates the inbox the same way; if I click on Inbox right away, the new messages will download. If I download from a few other folders first, Inbox won't download.

Does anybody have any idea why this happens?

Can you pls advise me how to do this without losing or corrupting any of my Thunderbird emails or damaging any files on my Mac.

I am running Thunderbird 91.5.0. on two identical operating systems, i.e. Ubuntu 20.04, the one a desktop and the other a laptop. When we travel, I transfer my .thunderbird profile folder to my laptop so I can access my mails, diary etc., however, since the latest Thunderbird upgrade to 91.5.0 the laptop no longer recognises the .thunderbird profile generated on the desktop computer.

The problem started when the laptop installation was still running on the old Thunderbird version, so I hoped and assumed that if I upgrade to the same 91.5.0 version on the laptop, the problem will be solved, but that is unfortunately not the case.

When I copy the .thunderbird file to my external drive, there are some files that cannot be copied. The error message reads "Error while copying 'lock'" and "Filesystem does not support symbolic links" - Could this be the reason and what can I do to resolve the issue?
