For the past week when I try to retrieve my email I continue to get this error message. Tried re-entering my email password but didn't make a difference. Checked the server settings - outgoing is showing this smtp.verizon.net, port 465 and server name shows pop.verizon.net, port 995. I have a gmail account on Thunderbird and works normally. Any suggestions?

The past few days I've been unable to get my emails from my IONOS account. I have the latest version of Thunderbird (91.5.1). Before that, it worked fine. When I click Get Messages, it says "connected to pop.1and1.com", but that goes away and I don't get any sort of error message. I called IONOS and the lady I talked to said they have heard from some customers who were having the same trouble with Thunderbird as I am. She said everything is fine with my account and I can get my emails via webmail. She said there's nothing she can do and suggested I contact Mozilla so here I am. I assume there was an update to the program a few days ago that broke something. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

For no apparent reason and all of a sudden I cannot download email. I can still send email. I tried all the suggested remedies and checked all my settings. Running 91.5.1/Win10Pro I can download my mail on my phone and tablet as well as using the web based access on my PC. I tried disabling both my AV, and Defender. No clue where to go from here. Any guidance will be very much appreciated. Thanks!!

Running Windows 11 This morning I was not able to get to my Verizon/Aol email through Thunderbird. Thunderbird went through it's usual start up process and contacted the server but stalled at "Sending Password". Error message said "Sending of password did not succeed. Try again later." So I tried again this afternoon and get the same response. I checked and the server is reported up and working well. Doing some further checking I see Thunderbird updated this morning from version 91.5.0 to version 91.5.1 . It seems that since this update I'm no longer able to get into my mail server using Thunderbird. Thoughts ??? Thanks for your help.

I have Thunderbird vers. 91.5.1 (32 bits) I am on Windows 10. My ISP verizon.net which is through aol. I can retrieve and send my mail there on the web interface. I don't have a firewall, Avast Free is my antivirus ( last update was December 8) One minute I was getting and sending messages through my desktop Thunderbird, and then it stopped working. I rebooted my computer and i still have the same problem. I had not made any changes to my account settings nor to my password.

How do I get someone to unblock what ever is preventing the flow of my thunderbird messages? This happened to me a few years ago and I was able to send a message to tech support and then in a day or 2 everything opened up again.

For approximately two weeks now I am sometimes able to send email in the early morning, but after several hours I receive the error message attached regarding excessive failed authentications. It seems to reset every 24 hours. Comcast has been no help. I am connecting to the Comcast servers through the Charter/Spectrum network at my second home in North Carolina. Since it works sometimes it seems unlikely this is actually a configuration or Thunderbird issue, but I'd love to hear any ideas. Tried disabling ESET NOD32 15.0.23.0 antivirus, no change Thunderbird version 91.5.1 (64 bit), but it hasn't worked properly for several updates, and as mentioned above I don't think the problem is necessarily in Thunderbird. OS is Windows 10, just updated this morning to build 19041

I keep getting the message "server imap.aol.com has disconnected". Suggestion is that either the server has gone down or there's a network problem. I have asked aol about this and their answer is that if the wifi connection is ok (it is) it's something going wrong in Thunderbird.

It dosen't happen when email is incoming, but can happen if I'm sending an email, or moving to the inbox an email imappropriately sent into junk or bulk mail folders.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Dear Thunderbird Support,

I am representative for my company Likom Caseworks Sdn. Bhd., Melaka, Malaysia. One of my user has the special case. She used to be open messages in "a new message windows" instead of "a new tab".

Her problem do not occur every time she open messages. However, in some time, when she open messages in a new message windows, her main Inbox windows will closed up itself.

The proper practice for open messages in "a new message windows" should remain the main Inbox windows instead of close it up. May I know how to solve the problem. I had helped her to install to the latest version 91.3.1 but the problem do not solved.

Please assist.

Hi,

I am using version 91. I am using the built-in GCal implementation.

On My Google account I have two calendars:

  • Personal
  • Business

I am seeing two different behaviors.

  • When I click to dismiss a recurring event from my Business calendar, nothing happens. The window doesn't disappear and it's as if the window registers nothing.
  • When I click to dismiss a recurring event from my Personal calendar, the event disappears from the window, then reappears immediately. It's as if the dismissal action has no effect other than triggering the event again.

This is new behavior with version 91. Does anyone know why it happens?

As of today, I'm unable to use Thunderbird to send outbound mail though my ISP - CenturyLink.net.

After much frustration, testing, and talking with CenturyLink personnel, I noticed that Thunderbird had updated itself today to version 91.5.1. Since I'm able to send mail through the CenturyLink mail server - smtp.centurylink.net - via Android and their webmail, this update seems suspect.

Further, after logging on to an old computer I no longer use with an old version of Thunderbird (78.x.x) I was also able to send email successfully.

So, it appears evident that the 91.5.1 update has broken Thunderbirds communication to the CenturyLink outbound mail server.

I'm running Windows 10, using port 587, normal password authentication and STARTTLS security.

I'm about to uninstall Thunderbird and go back to an earlier version, but I thought I'd first submit this issue.

I really love Thunderbird, have been using it for 10 years. But the problem is the search function which is very slow and it freezes the software so nothing can be done until the search is done. If I cancel the search it removes the results it found. So I either have to wait or get no results.

The search also fails to find words that are in the body of html emails.

Please work on the search function to improve usability :)

I've been experiencing some weird behaviour from Thunderbird lately, when i receive a message I can read it and it shows correctly but after a few days the message changes and it shows the HTML details or a block text that reminds me to an encrypted text.

I updated to the latest version, I also make sure to check the right options (I did research before open this thread)

This only happen in a few messages with no relation at all.

Hello thunderbird support, please help out: I keep getting this error 'Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.office365.com timed out. Try again.'

This problem started happening after an update to thunderbird, though this might be coincidental. When I send an email right away it always sends successfully without any issues. I only get the error popup when sending emails that are in the outbox 'send unsent messages' or when I schedule emails using send later.

Here is a list of things that I've tried. I'm using thunderbird on Windows. Email is setup as POP. -I've tried using Windows safe mode, problem still exists -Thunderbird troubleshoot mode, problem still exists -Disabling antivirus, problem still exists (uninstalled the whole antivirus, problem still exists) -Allowed thunderbird in windows firewall, problem still exists -Disabling Windows firewall, problem still exists -Creating a fresh new thunderbird profile under profile manager, problem still exists -Changed from wired to wireless internet, problem still exists -Whether I'm sending fewer emails or many emails, problem still exists -Tried clearing thunderbird: internet cache and cookies using CCleaner, problem still exists -Tried changing all the smtp settings to wrong and then changing them back again, problem still exists -Tried increasing the timeout time mailnews.tcptimeout in Config Editor to 500, and 2000, problem still exists -Tried changing the Connection Settings > Proxy - the 4 different options, makes no difference -Changing the windows clock to a week backwards in time and changing back to correct time

Extra notes: -Creating a new windows local account in Windows on same computer - works no problem! -Using other computers on the same network - works no problem!


I'm totally at my wits end. The username, password, smtp settings, internet connection & settings, computer are all fine. I'll repeat once again the issue, when I send emails immediately it is totally fine every time. When I schedule emails or send from outbox (even a minute later), it comes back with error messages. What is the difference between outbox emails and sending-in-real-time emails that causes this SMTP time out error?

Hi,

When I first launch Thunderbird and click Get Messages nothing happens, even though I know that there are emails waiting to be downloaded.

When I click Get Messages a second time, the emails do download.

I have the latest version Thunderbird 91.5.1 on the latest Windows 10 - all updated as of 26 JAN 2022.

Any ideas?

Frequently, when I've used Thunderbird to 'Detach' an attachment from a message on Yahoo's mail server, the entire message just disappears! It's not in Trash, just gone for good, and it don't show up when using Yahoo's web interface either. I've noticed this behavior when detaching from Sent messages, not sure about Inbox.

I more often do this maintenance for my FastMail account, which has a quota, so I probably should just remember to stop doing that with Yahoo, but it's puzzling. I've never seen that happen with any other mail server. I'm curious if this is a known issue.
