Thunderbird v102 Win10 IMAP THE PROBLEM: A. Tbird connects to IMAP but has a bouncing ball to the left of the Inbox. B. So I pull down TOOLS > activity mgr > and the thermometer is stuck on indexing or it sticks on “determining which messages to index.” C. I try to check mail and it’s very very very slow to open the Password Dialog Box. I don’t know if it’ll open or not so I click around and somehow eventually it opens. Barely checks or sends mail and is time consuming. D. Pull down TOOLS > activity mgr > and the Indexing thermometer stays stuck even if I leave it for 30 minutes. E. I should mention I do have a lot of folders and subfolders with a lot of messages.

WHAT I’VE DONE TO SOLVE IT: 1. Ran tbird in safe mode but no improvement. No addons or extensions are installed/enabled. 2. It’s IMAP, so I turned off all the email apps on the iphone but no improvement. 3. ESET antiviral is set to Exclude Thunderbird so I’m thinking it’s not ESET. Ran an ESET scan but found no threats. 4. I cleared the cache. Go to TOOLS > clear history > clear everything 5. Increase the cache size. Go to Tools | Settings | General | Disk Space and checkbox ON "Override automatic cache management" and change the number in "Use up to ___ MB of space for the cache" to 1024. Restart Tbird but no improvement. Restart Win10 but no improvement. 6. I selected a folder I know has lots of messages in it and rightclicked > properties > 780 messages, repair the .msf file. It re downloaded 1350 messages. Restarted Win10 but no improvement. 7. I've read that if I start Win10 in “SafeMode w/Networking” and Tbird connects and speeds up then there may be a software conflict but I did not do that cause I don’t mess with Win10. Never had a conflict before and didn’t make any changes except for Win10 and cCleaner updates as they became available. It's been 6 hrs and I can't figure it out. 8. The next thing for me to do is some house cleaning and delete some messages but that's painstaking and I have no idea if that'll help or not.

Hello, I have seen similar reports on that issue here and elsewhere. What surprises me is that if I right click on the sent folder and select properties, it still gives me the right number of messages in that folder.

In fact, If I go to ~/.thunderbird/my_profile.default/Mail/pop.gmail-2.com/Sent.sbd/2023 and open that file with whatever text editor, file 2023 contains all messages sent. I have tried repairing that file, then restarting TB to no avail. Is there a workaround ?

I have been using Thunderbird for many years. I have a large number of email accounts added. I recently tried to add another one and received the error message: 'Incoming server already exists'. I eventually uninstalled and deleted the whole thing and downloaded another version which I installed. Although I had deleted all mentions of Thunderbird from my computer, it stills comes up with the same message. If I create an account without the password, it will accept it but then doesn't recognise the password, despite the account working on other devices.

  • I see some have suggested changing Authentication method to "OAuth" from "Normal Password" but this has not helped. (Not sure if OAuth is different than OAuth2, but only OAuth2 is an option in Thunderbird)
  • I have tried setting the Authentication to OAuth2 in the outlook.com account => account settings => Edit SMTP server

Thunderbird 102.7.0, 64-bit, Windows 10.

I just fell over this today but it may have been around for a while.

I have lots of email accounts. It was great when TB starting properly supporting a per-account (outbound) SMTP server, however, this seems to have newly broken. I fell over it today, but I don't reboot things for ages so I cannot pinpoint the start.

Here's the issue.

I have accounts on many mail servers, many on the same (mainly att.net, and gmail.com, as it happens).

Each one of them, to send mail, wants me to log in with an individual sending address. Fair enough. This used to work just fine.

However, suddenly, just the att.net addresses are broken. What *seems* to be happening is that the same, single login address is being used for all N accounts. Naturally, this breaks when the login address doesn't match the one on the From: line. So I have to futz around, fiddle around, and so on, and then things work. (I.E. I change the TB settings so that the outbound SMTP auth login matches the From: line, have to re-enter the password, and only then will the message be sent.) So if I have two accounts, x@att.net and y@att.net, only one of them (at a time) "works" with att.net - it's whatever I successfully used last. If I sent mail from x@, this address is being used (and it's in the account settings field. over-riding what was there before), even if I send mail from y@. Or z@. Etc. If I change the SMTP auth address to y@, then that account works perfectly, but x@ doesn't. And so on.

Now the weird part is this: my Gmail addresses still work perfectly. I can send from all of them without changing a thing.

The only thing I can see is that Gmail is set up to use oAuth, and att.net is set up to use 'normal password' (via SSL, so I'm not that bothered about security).

Did I unknowingly manage to break something? Is there a new tweak? Help!

i have windows 11. am on a pc with i-7. my TB version is 102.7.0

i get this error message: jpg could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences. i went to windows default manager, and 'photos' is the default for both jpg and jpeg files.

one TB source recommended going to Tools -> Options -> Attachments / Download Actions -> View and Edit Actions; but my TB doesn't have an 'options' choice under 'tools', and doesn't have an 'attachment' or 'download action' or 'view and edit' choice under any of the headings. my heading choices are 'file', 'edit', view', 'go', 'message', events and tasks', 'tools' and 'help'.

i found a 'config editor' under tools -> account settings -> thunderbird settings (when scroll to the very bottom of the thunderbird settings) -> config editor . there are many many , and i scroll down, but no jpg or jpeg is listed (even when i typed 'jpeg' or 'jpg' in the 'search preference name' box.

what next? please be patient and thorough and walk me through each and every step/click, because i am not very computer savvy.

Ok Guys,

I know you are all very busy, but how long should it take to perfect the "ADD NEW EMAIL ACCOUNT" option in Thunderbird.

I have always had problems (from years ago) adding new Email Accounts, I've learned to manually change the username to reflect, the full email address not just the name, (left of the @ symbol.)

Solution - include the full name ex: "Name@Domain" rather than Name, it would be such a great advancement.

Secondly,

Now on this latest release of Thunderbird (102.7l.00) and a little prior

I have been running into this Strange problem

Every time I add a New Email Account, and click on Done, It spins, and spins, while I wait for TB to add the New Email. and apparently, it never does.

Same problems as before: the Username is incomplete, which is a pain I manually have to configure it and I re submit the Task, and it comes back " Incoming Server Exists Message" Error Message

After maybe 10 years of developing Thunderbird, I cannot understand why this basic of all basic procedure is flawed.

FYI - I have spent the past 1 hour trying to add an email account - and it will not work.

You have any solutions?

Thank you in advance.

I have an email address at an organization that uses Office365. I am able to log in, read and send emails using Outlook either as a standalone app or through a browser. I can also do the same on my desktop with Thunderbird. It's version 102.6.1 (64-bit) running on Windows 10. I must have logged in ages ago and I don't need to do it daily. I use the 2FA mandated by my organization when I log in with Outlook.

Thunderbird is so much better in many ways that I'd like to use it on my laptop as well, but when I try to set it up, it just replies with "Authentication failure while connecting to server outlook.office365.com" even though even the 2FA succeeds. This is a laptop with Windows 10 and TB 102.7.0 (64-bit)

I have checked that (suggestions from other threads): -Cached connections is 1 -IPv6 disabled -Cookies enabled -I cannot set up a app password. I guess not allowed by my organization.

Settings are typical, server outlook.office365.com, 993, SSL/TLS, OAuth2. All that works on TB on the other computer.

Thanks for any suggestions!

We work with Thunderbird on local PC's but for roaming support we have the Thunderbird profiles on a network drive. Lately we noticed that on occasion the network drive is slow or disconnects for a second at which point Thunderbird looses it's lock or the connection to the profile. This results in then giving a popup to reenter the credentials for the mailbox. Is there some setting in Thunderbird where we can tell it to try again for a few times before giving the error?

I found the option 'network.protocol-handler.external.disks' but I cannot find any description on what this setting actually does, is this setting relevant to this issue?

I would appreciate any help you can give us.

I am running win 10 (64) with thunderbird 102.6.1 (64-bit) and in the past 2 days keep getting a pop-up from ieee - I was a member. I contacted ieee and my account was deleted. A full scan using current version avast free did not find anything. I tried logging in and was rejected.

When this pop-up appears, there is an additional listing in task manager under thunderbird.

I find it extremely annoying to keep getting this pop-up.

I am also using comodo firewall.

I am also contacting avast and comcodo.

Any suggestions etc would be appreciated.

Hi guys. I'm using TB 102.1.2 (32-bit) brasilian portuguese version. I have multiply accounts configurated in my TB, derefore, I have more then one SMTP server configurated. I setup the second server as default server (button "set as deault" in SMTP server configuration folder), however, every time I start a new email message, TB selects allways the first SMTP server to send the message. It looks like the default SMTP setting is not recognized by TB and it uses the first SMTP server in the list every time. Thanks for the help and best regards for everyone.

Using T'bird 102.5.1 on Win 10 64bit updated thru the November updates. All was well this morning [emails, calendars, address books, etc]. PC was left on today with network disconnected. When I reconnected the network and restarted T'bird this evening, it's acting like it either lost my profile info or something is corrupted. When I do run, thunderbird -p, my one and only profile name appears but when T'bird starts it wants me to set up email accounts. Calendars appear to be gone. Address Book entries seem to appear OK. Any help on how to recover this would be greatly appreciated.

I am using Thunderbird 102.6.1. I used Thunderbird this morning and everything was fine. I shut my computer and it should have gone to sleep. When I returned tonight, it appears that Windows had updated and restarted the computer. I say all of this because Thunderbird may have been forced closed and this could be a source of the problem.

In any case, when I opened Thunderbird this evening, it opened to an account set up page. Home was opened in another tab, but all my accounts, folders, address books were missing. I looked in the profiles folder and it seems my profile is intact. It's like Thunderbird knew about my profile folder and thought it was loading it, but then it didn't actually load it at all. I've tried some various things but have yet to find a solution.
