I have changed my password on an IMAP server

I have deleted the corresponding IMAP provider in the saved passwords

Thunderbird does not ask me the new password and tries to connect to the server with the old password.

I have restarted Thunderbird, but it keeps trying to connect to the IMAP server with the old password, and after some time it times out.

I am using the latest version of thunderbird 102.9.1 on windows 10

Hello, I have 5 email addresses - four I use regularly: TalkTalk1 (Default) and 2, Free-online and Googlemail (haven't upgraded to gmail), and one I haven't for ages (YahooMail). I cannot send emails from any, except from my TalkTalk(TT) default one. I have updated the TalkTalk new Outgoing server settings to the best of my ability, for TalkTalk2 (TT2), Free-online (FOL) and Googlemail (GM) - I can send screenshots for each if necessary: - Server names: all smtp.domain name.net, except FOL: relay.free-online.net (verified on several google searches) - Outgoing port: all changed to 587 - Connection security: all STARTTTLS - Authentication method: all 'Normal password' (I am assuming these would be the same as the ones in the saved login passwords section of Privacy & Security, except for GM which has Incoming server authentication OAuth2 but a normal password in the saved login Passwords) - User name: my email addresses, except for FOL: my name Details: Email providers: TalkTalk, Free-online (Plusnet), Googlemail ISP: Talktalk.net Operating system: MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 Thunderbird version: 102.8.0 Many thanks for your help, it is now the 8th day I spend on this (I am a senior not very techy person).

I use thunderbird both on a linux laptop and under windows. I exported my private openPGP keys from Thunderbird on linux and imported them into the program on windows. When I use the windows program to send encrypted emails between accounts (e.g. from my gmail account to my hotmail account) the message can be decrypted but it says it has an invalid digital signature. This does not happen when I do this under linux. Any idea how I can fix this? Many thanks!

I have two email accounts I access via TB. Each has its own smtp server. Upon migrating to 102.8 I cannot keep them separate, it forces the latest one that I edited to be the default one and operate for both accounts, which impairs my ability to send emails efficiently. How can I handle this? Thank you.

I am plagued with multiple spam messages every hour. I get 30-40 per day every single day, day after day after day. The spammer is clever and has managed to elude being caught by the Bayesian filtering of both Gmail and Thunderbird so they pretty much all end up in my 'Inbox'. ( he is spoofing the sending domain with 128 random characters so no two messages are ever seen to be from the same sender). Very frustrating!! But there is a possible way to trap and discard this trash **IF** I can use Unix style regular expression wild cards in my filter rules.

My question is this --- when setting up a new email filter in Thunderbird, what (if any) wild cards are supported in the "Sender Contains" argument field? For example can I use ".........." to match any 10 character string? I need to be able to specify the number of characters I want to match, so something like "*" would not work since it matches without regard to the number of characters. I need to specify how many characters are to be matched.

I can supply details as to why this is needed, but I won't bore you with the details unless you ask.

Thanks for any input.

Looks like the new Thunderbird updated, after it relaunched my Thunderbird wont open to my email accounts. I get a pop up Windows Security alert that shows an email address of an old account I don't use now and a password I can't remember as it was 5 years ago. I have no way to get new one as it was company email I do not work for now.

Thing is now I can't get past that pop up alert for an old account to make Thunderbird launch as normal. Any ideas please? Photo below.

Hi,

I am running Thunderbird V102.9.0, 64 bit, Windows 10.

I have (5) IMAP accounts and under each one, a folder called "extensions^Junk" is there. I delete them in Thunderbird, compact folders; Delete them on the IMAP MagicMail web portal; I have renamed the folders; And every time I launch Thunderbird, they reappear. I can watch them appear a few seconds after launching Thunderbird. My email provider says they are not creating them. I do not have any extensions or add-ins installed.

Can anyone please provide a way to get rid of these folders?

Thanks

I am on Thunderbird 102.5.0 (32-bit) The authentication of my University of Glasgow e-mail account has to be change to OAuth2. I have tried to do so but there is a problem. When I try to change the Outgoing Server (SMPT) from Normal Password to OAuth2, the drop menu does NOT contain the option 'OAuth2'. The 'OAuth2' option is available in the Security Settings Authentication method drop menu.

I have made the recommended checks on cookies and java script etc. They are set as instructed.

TB 102.5.0 (64-bit) on Win10 I'm getting repeated notices that my e-mail accounts with Network Solutions don't have a proper "certificate" when I try to send an email. I get a popup window stating so, and asking me to "permanently" choose the exception. It doesn't matter how many times I tell the fool thing to accept the exception "permanently". I still keep getting the notice every few times. Since the glitch is not consistent, I don't have an image of one to put here. Not only that, I have to send the email twice after doing so. TB refuses to send the email the first time after choosing the exception, but allows it the second. I don't know anything about "certificates" and am sick of getting popup notices about them. I doubt that the problem is with Network Solutions email accounts. This reminds me of years ago, when I tried to upgrade to WinXP. It kept interrupting my work to give me popup security notices that I didn't understand and couldn't do anything about. If I remember correctly, I took it back to Sam's Club and replaced it with Win2000. Problem solved. Never mind that XP was supposed to be better. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm having issues with Thunderbird remembering passwords, particular CardDAV/CalDAV (using the built in functionality without extensions).

Thunderbird 102.8.0 (64-bit) on Windows 11. I migrated from Windows 10 and imported the old profile into a new one. Email passwords were fine but it keeps asking for the CardDAV/CalDAV passwords without remembering them in the password manager (yes, checkbox ticked). Endpoint is NextCloud 24.

I already disabled hardware acceleration, cookies are enabled, deleted several .db files that I saw mentioned in other posts and a json file - NOTHING works.

For some time, I have had problems sending email through Tbird, set up for IMAP to my Gmail account. I'm using 102.8.0 (32-bit) and it is set up for SSL/TLS using OAuth2. It often hangs at the stage of "sending login information", reporting eventually that it timed out. It didn't used to be that way, now it is (maybe for over a year), and I often have to retry a few times. Recently, I had to bang my head against the wall a dozen times which is more than usual, and that happened twice in the day. It could be that Google was just too busy and I should go away and try another day; but maybe y'all know about this issue and have a fix.

Thanx, Dave Odden

I try moving to Geary to Thunderbird as now.

I just use email and use my information just says error wrong password as I know that wrong.

I look on my outlook email I see the Ip adress says I have Imap with my ip adress of my home as usefully as I try more than 3 times as now Outlook treats it as security problem as now kick me oit change password even with the new password on Thunderbird.

Is there anyway to fix this error to log in as Outlook see it as secuirty treat of outside as even same Ip adress as the problem wont show location data as not sure if I am on Linux and had privacy setting off on Linux computer use on Thunderbird.

Hi I have a mail server running on an internal networked Asustor NAS with Thunderbird on the same network on a user PC. Thunderbird picks up the domain and the mail server IMAP settings with the green accept bar. When clicking on Inbox for the newly created Thunderbird account, it asks for the password which is the same for the NAS access user and mail server user account. Password is correct.

Message comes back "Login to server xxxx.xxxxx.com with username xxxxx failed"

I have tried the connection on recommended IMAP settings (STARTTLS) as well as trying SSL/TLS and an unsecure connection. Port numbers have been changed according to security. Same error message.

Mail server has POP3/IMAP/SMTP activated. I have added the domain certificate to Thunderbird through the internal IP:port address. I did notice a hack attempt when entering the xxx.com domain as the certificate location but overcame that by pointing the certificate location through a IP:port address to the NAS address. Certificate is loaded on user PC so connection is secure

Not sure why it picks up the mail server and mail settings but then prevents login.

Is Thunderbird referencing the mail server to the externally registered domain instead of the locally held mail server? Tried the local IP address as the mail server but Thunderbird rejects that as well replying "Enter a valid server name"

Don't think it is a firewall setting?

If Thunderbird is pointing to the external domain and picking up MX records, how do I point it to the local IP address where the Asustor NAS mail server is kept?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

When sending an encrypted message, if I have End to end encryption --> Advanced Setting --> Attach my public key... checked, I get error message that tells me message is corrupted by MS-Exchange. As far as I am aware I don't go through MS exchange. The message is sent from a protonmail address and received in a gmail address. Both sender and recipient are on the same desktop system running Thunderbird 102.7.1 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

If I click repair, then the message content is finally displayed. I get not get an error when I unclick the attach my public key... box.

I don't know what message, if any, the recipient will see if using Outlook or webmail.

Thanks,

Is there a way to emulate Edge, Chrome, or Firefox in the browser window opened for Oauth2 or open Oauth2 authentication window in another browser?
