can I place an image into a bookmarks toolbar site icon if it remains a blank folder after visting it's designated site?
after visiting most sites the icon changes to that site's logo, but some don't, and I would like to change the blank folder icon to some kind of graphic logo in order to shorten the amount of text occupying the toolbar but still be able to quickly distinguish which icon is which.

Check your settings against those in about:config entries
- browser.chrome.favicons
- browser.chrome.load_toolbar_icons
- browser.chrome.site_icons
More information on configuration variables available in about:config entries and for users not familiar with the process there is about:config (How to change).
FWIW, I use 1-4 character text directly on the bookmarks toolbar for bookmark(let)s/folders instead of site favicons which are meanlingless for bookmarks folders and bookmarklets.
