Thunderbird 68.10.0 on Linux Mint 20.04 (Linux 5.4.0-52-generic) Profile on Local Drive, IMAP via gmail

I find I have profile files in three different places and at least some files in each location have current dates.

To fix this I've moved all "local folders" back to gmail and deleted the local folders. I'm hoping I can do the following:

    go off line
completely un-install Thurnderbird including all profile and config files
    re-install thunderbird and add-ons
    re-sync with to gmail
re-establish "local files" and move data off gmail again.

This is nervous making. Are there any traps here? Is there a better recommended approach?

DISCLAIMER: I'm certain that the problem is mine. I've been using TB for decades and at one time or another I've had up to four different email accounts, I've changed from POP to IMAC and I have moved the profile several times as I try to simplify my system wide backup plan by putting things that I want backed up daily to cloud and things I want backed up periodically (to external flash or HDD) in different directories . Now I'm back to just one account.
