I would like to comment on my experience with your “Thunderbird” e-mail program.
I had previously been using Eudora on my Mac computers for many years and had become accustomed to its solid and predictable performance. With Thunderbird ver. 38.6.0, I have been experiencing frustration, especially with the address book.
My last Mac died and I replaced it with a new Mac Mini running OS X El Capitan on which Eudora would no longer work. I replaced Eudora with Thunderbird, hoping that it would work as well as my old Eudora did.
My first problem was installing my old Eudora Address Book on Thunderbird and realized that the old formatting was lost. Oh well, I will have to redo the formatting to restore the different groups I had arraigned.
My current problems with the address book are with editing or deleting entries in the book. I can do neither. • If I try to delete an entry, nothing happens when I highlight the entry and then click “DELETE” on the top margin. • If I try to edit an entry, I make the changes on the drop down menu and then click the “OK” button at the bottom — nothing happens.
Frustrating! How do we fix this. Please respond with some clear, concise remedies.

PS, I would still prefer to use Eudora if it were available to run under El Capitan. Why? Because it was easy to use and it was reliable.

Have you tried restarting Thunderbird with add-ons and Themes disabled... It is on the help menu. About 99% of the people I see on this forum with a complaint that the user interface does not work have an add-on or theme that they have added that is causing them trouble.
I am glad you have stopped using Eudora. One less person sending mail no one else can read properly. You might not be aware, but there a quirks with mail from Eudora that cause problems for those receiving them. Not the least of which is character encoding.
My first comment to anyone used to Eudora is, tinkering under the hood is not required. Hand editing files is actively discouraged. Even with support issues. Deleting files is about as far as we go.
My second word is that the Eudora way is not necessarily the email way or the Thunderbird way. Like Eudora storing attachments separately to the mail. When hard disk were 10mb and every byte mattered it was a feature. Eudora folk loved it. In latter years everyone else wondered what the excitement was all about when Eudora users complained it was not in application XX they had replaced Eudora with..
Once folk get past those two things they appear to have a much better time of it.
As for import from Eudora, that was broken in Version 31 disabled in 38 and will be removed permanently in Version 45 to be released soon. A decade after the product was released is long enough to support legacy code.
